Description

Melbourne Storm is an Australian professional rugby league club playing in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition.  We are the only NRL team based in Victoria and have experienced substantial growth and success in our short history.

About the role

We are searching for a self-motivated, highly organised, vibrant person to join our Club in a 12-month parental leave contract as our Retail and Merchandise Manager. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, this stand-alone role is integral role within our business, tasked with overseeing our retail merchandise offerings ranging from apparel, memorabilia, and other licensed products.

With a genuine passion for, and previous experience in, this space, the Retail and Merchandise Manager will be primarily accountable for working closely with various departments and internal stakeholders to deliver an exceptional retail program, with a focus on revenue, achieving budgets, timelines and apparel fulfillment across the club. The role will also need to seamlessly manage key stakeholders including the NRL, suppliers and partners to bring the retail program to life.

The ability to be collaborative, juggle multiple priorities and stakeholders, deliver on agreed timelines and maintain high energy will be key to success in this role.

This role will be responsible for a number of key deliverables including, but not limited to:

  • Championing the relationship with the Club’s official apparel partner to ensure the partnership is executed efficiently and the Club’s brand is consistently represented.
  • Managing the end-to-end delivery of the Club’s annual apparel range based on high performance requirements for all players and staff.
  • Managing all elements of the apparel production process alongside our official partner including from design, quality control, ordering, allocation and delivery.
  • Managing the planning and delivery of Melbourne Storm Retail program across E-commerce and game day.
  • Managing the retail budget and being accountable for achieving revenue targets.
  • Championing the relationship with the Club’s official retail partner including undertaking regular reporting, driving initiatives to deliver online sales and ensuring the online store is achieving e-commerce best practice.
  • Working with the broader marketing team to create innovative campaigns to leverage club channels and maximise key gifting/ sales periods.
  • Managing the Club’ Auction and Club Memorabilia programs with relevant third parties.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with NRL and other partners to deliver retail outcomes and ensure integration where appropriate.
  • Working with the NRL to ensure compliance across the club apparel and retail programs.
  • Working with other NRL retail partners to maximize club revenue opportunities & royalties.
  • Supporting the delivery of sponsorship rights and benefits as required.

Note: Melbourne Storm currently works in partnership with an external retail partner to deliver our program across the online store and in-venue. This role is not required to manage retail ordering.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • 3 years minimum experience in a similar role and / or within the industry within the face paced working environment.
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Marketing or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in commercial retail, merchandise or marketing environment.
  • Familiarity and comfort working with financial and numerical targets.
  • Experience in the sporting or entertainment sector will be highly regarded.
