AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.

We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

As part of AusCycling’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, to integrity and clean sport, to building communities and to achieving excellence in the right way, we are now seeking an ‘Athlete Transitions and Lifestyle Manager’ to join our team. 

About The Role

Reporting to the Executive General Manger - Performance, the ‘Athlete Transitions and Lifestyle Manager’ is responsible for supporting Podium Ready able and para-athletes throughout their athletic lifecycle. More specifically, developing them on a personal, holistic & professional level with the aim of creating healthy, inspirational role models that value their connection with our sport and have the energy to competitively engage in their career whilst pursing success beyond sport.

Key duties include:

  • Support athletes from a personal and lifestyle perspective as they transition on to, through and beyond podium ready and podium programs.
  • Promote and support athletes in their development of broader identities, interests, and skills beyond their sport to enable effective life balance and to enhance professional and personal development.
  • Assess athlete life-skills, career and education needs and create individualised plans to ensure all athletes are working on their life-skills and career development while in the Podium Ready and Podium Programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders such as AW&E Managers at State Institutes, the AIS, and academic institutions.
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration between athletes, coaches, performance staff, and other key stakeholders.
  • Compliment the strategical objectives of the sports performance, health & wellbeing strategy by working as part of an integrated performance support, staff and coaching team.
  • Efficient and effective referral to appropriate service providers when athlete needs fall out of scope of role.

About You

We are seeking a genuine and compassionate individual looking to make a meaningful difference to an organisation and the people within. You will bring your passion for supporting athletes through their sport transitions, with your ability to engage, inspire, and cultivate a positive culture.

Ideally, you will have knowledge or experience gained from the Australian sport system, and proven experience working in either a multi-disciplinary High-Performance, Academic, or Social Support environment.

The following experience would be advantageous:

  • Relevant qualifications that would support the achievement of the role outcomes and key accountabilities.
  • Demonstrated high level experience guiding and supporting people through various life and career transitions.
  • Training or experience in academic counselling, social support, career development, or teaching.
  • Proven experience building and leveraging relationships to influence and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate with integrity and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.

Position Location

Ideally the successful candidate will reside in Adelaide, SA.

Contract Type

Please note: This is a Fixed Term Contract through to December 31st 2024
