Description

The ACT Brumbies Team Physiotherapist will support the Head Physiotherapist in providing physiotherapy services to the ACT Brumbies squad; including, but not limited to the assessment, treatment, injury prevention and rehabilitation of injuries.

Responsibilities

Service Delivery

  • Delivery of specialist physiotherapy treatment and support to all players within the ACT Brumbies squad
  • Assist the Rehabilitation Physiotherapist in the delivery of rehabilitation service to all injured (rehab) players part of the ACT Brumbies squad including communication of progress to head physiotherapist and head of athletic performance
  • Contribute to the coordination, planning and delivery of injury prevention, monitoring and screening programmes for players
  • Assist the relevant Performance Health staff as necessary in providing acute care to the playing group, ensuring player welfare is paramount and a performance mindset is maintained at all times
  • Coordinate physiotherapy related activities for non-23 players including but not limited to scheduling, massage, strapping, injury assessment and treatment
  • Assist in the management of all consumables required & maintenance of physiotherapy equipment
  • Work in collaboration with medical and performance teams (doctors, physiotherapists, athletic performance, nutrition and other service providers)
  • Regular reflection and refinement of individual practise to ensure exceptional levels of individual and group management are displayed

Communication

  • Liaise and meet regularly with the medical and the athletic performance team to ensure there is a co-ordinated, planned, and integrated approach to the management of fit and injured players
  • Liaise with head physiotherapist and national team physiotherapists and doctors regarding the progress and on-going treatment of players of national interest
  • Communicate regularly with the medical and performance team regarding any specialist physiotherapy issues related to player welfare or performance

Reporting / Documentation

  • Maintain up to date notes on the online player medical management system (Smartabase)
  • Report to the head physiotherapist on all matters relating to players’ injuries and progress
  • Complete written reports as required by the Brumbies head physiotherapist and occasionally the national lead physiotherapist if relating to players of national interest

Multidisciplinary Teamwork / Working Relationships

  • Build and maintain relations with all Brumbies and RA rugby staff (particularly in the areas of medicine, physiotherapy and athletic performance) to ensure relationships of trust, respect, support and continuous and open communication exist
  • Build and maintain a relationship of trust and respect with the Brumbies medical department ensuring continuous and open communication

Education / CPD

  • Be trained and updated in acute pitch side care, including spinal injury and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in your capacity as a physiotherapist
  • Keep up to date on recent research in sports physiotherapy and rugby related physiotherapy issues

Skills

  • Highly motivated with ability to work under his/her own direction to achieve performance targets within agreed timeframe
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team within a high performance environment
  • Proactive, flexible performance orientated approach
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to oversee effective and efficient information flow between high performance staff and players
  • Effective and efficient organisational skills
  • IT / Computer literate and competent
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate medical confidentiality
  • Ability to analyse complex medical problems and develop bespoke solutions

Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor or Masters in physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Current physiotherapy registration including up to date personal indemnity insurance
  • Demonstrable specialist skills around injury diagnosis and rehabilitation
  • A minimum of two years post graduate experience with elite sports people
  • Programme development and delivery experience
  • Good organisational skills including record keeping
  • On-going maintenance of CPD as outlined by your regulatory body
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work well within a multidisciplinary high performance team environment
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally as required
  • Ability to commit to irregular working hours including weekends

Desirable

  • Masters of Sports physiotherapy or equivalent
  • Sports specific emergency pitch-side training (Immediate Care in Rugby Level 2 or 3)
  • Physiotherapy experience in a professional rugby team environment
  • Experience working in a contact sport
  • Full drivers licence
  • Excellent IT and organisational skills
