Wyndham Basketball Association (WBA) is the largest non-professional sporting association in Melbourne’s West. Our vision is to “Be the association of choice in Melbourne’s West, providing the opportunity for everyone to participate in the game of basketball”.

Our goal is to grow and strengthen our basketball community, by providing development pathways that are affordable and accessible to everyone.

The Role:

Responsible for leadership of all operational aspects of the Wyndham Basketball Association, the Operations Executive will work with the Executive Committee to ensure that Wyndham Basketball is the association of choice in Melbourne’s west, as well as solidifying Wyndham Basketball as a major player and influencer in the broader Victorian Basketball landscape. This will be achieved through working with key stakeholders to oversee the day-to-day operations of the association (domestic, representative and programs), as well as work with the Executive Committee on the implementation of the business growth strategy and associated programs and initiatives.

The Operations Executive must be results-driven, able to successfully balance effective operations and strong growth with sound financial and commercial management as well as strong people development skills, whilst also maintaining strong and vibrant relationships with internal stakeholders, as well as external stakeholders such as Western Leisure Services, Wyndham City Council, Basketball Victoria and Basketball Australia. To be considered for this role you will need to possess senior leadership experience within business with a focus on commercial acumen. Experience dealing within sporting organisations is desirable though not mandatory.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational:

  • Oversee all WBA programs, competitions, and events, to ensure they are executed efficiently, effectively and professionally and ensure appropriate KPI’s are measured
  • Prepare an annual business plan and calendar to execute the key programs and initiatives, track and report progress on that business plan
  • Review and analyse the financial performance of individual programs, competitions, and events, and the organisation and take corrective actions as required
  • Prepare and present monthly reporting to the board on the status of the association, reporting on key KPI metrics
  • Oversee marketing and communications activities with members and the broader community, including website, social media, press and events.

People:

  • Build strong working relationships with the Board, Basketball Victoria, Basketball Australia, WBA Member Groups, Eagle Stadium Management, Wyndham City Council, Schools within the Wyndham LGA, and various community groups.
  • Coach and mentor staff to enable them perform their roles effectively and achieve their career goals
  • Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills and build Team Culture with both staff and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the WBA provides outstanding customer service to all member and non-member enquiries, to encourage participation growth both on and off the court.
  • Be a role model and advocate for adherence to the WBA core values and Basketball Victoria code of conduct through professional and respectful interactions at all times
  • Be a champion for diversity within the association, encouraging and driving participation across genders and cultures
  • Create a ‘culture of volunteering’ within the association, and support volunteers and committees
  • Provide support and guidance to Domestic Club committees on best practice within basketball and the sporting environment

Strategic:

  • Identify, pursue and execute partnerships, sponsorships and grants that are aligned with the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Execute key programs and initiatives that enable the achievement of the growth strategy
  • Actively participate in Basketball Victoria and Basketball Australia initiatives that are aligned with the strategy 
  • Be able to communicate the association vision, mission, core values & strategy to all stakeholders and interested parties 
  • Recommend, review, create and execute policies that are aligned to the association vision, mission, core values and strategic direction

This is a full-time position, typically 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, however due to the nature of the role and the sports industry, some out of hours work (including weekends and evenings) will be required as standard. You may be asked from time to time to perform duties beyond your position description.
