Wyndham Basketball Association (WBA) is the largest non-professional sporting association in Melbourne’s West. Our vision is to “Be the association of choice in Melbourne’s West, providing the opportunity for everyone to participate in the game of basketball”.

Our goal is to grow and strengthen our basketball community, by providing development pathways that are affordable and accessible to everyone.

The Role: 

The Community Competition Manager plays a crucial role overseeing the administration of our junior and senior competitions to ensure a seamless and positive experience for all members. 

This role serves as the primary point of contact for our community, including players, families, team managers, coaches, and senior team delegates, and to be the face and voice of the Junior and Senior Domestic competitions. Additionally, provide a point of contract for potential and current representative players. 

Additionally, the role requires strong community engagement and the management of participation data to guide strategic decision-making. As an integral part of our team, you will work closely with the WBA Operations Executive and collaborate with the WBA staff, and WBA Executive Members, and other key external stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of our domestic competitions and representative programs while continuously enhancing the member experience. 

The Community Competition Manager is responsible for the delivery of the operational activities within the senior and junior WBA domestic competition and any other WBA competitions delivered. This includes but is not limited to, managing competition fixtures, supervisors, door staff, and court bookings. The Community Competition Manager will work closely with WBA Operations Executive, WBA staff and volunteer team to ensure everyone can participate in the game of basketball. 

The Community Competition Manager is responsible for the delivery of the operational activities within the senior and junior WBA representative programs delivered. This includes but is not limited to, managing try our process, game day operations for VJBL and Big V, supervisors, door staff, technical officials (where required) and court bookings. The Community Competition Manager will work closely with WBA Operations Executive, WBA staff and volunteer team to ensure everyone can participate in the game of basketball.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in sports administration, particularly in competition management.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in community engagement and member experience management and knowledge and understanding of the needs of community basketball clubs.
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Experience within basketball club and/or committee management
  • Experience in managing casual staff and volunteers
  • A working understanding of Play HQ software
  • An unwavering desire to ensure a child safe environment.

This is a full-time position, typically 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, however due to the nature of the role and the sports industry, some out of hours work (including weekends and evenings) will be required as standard. You may be asked from time to time to perform duties beyond your position description.
