A Great Opportunity:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Assistant Head Coach to assist with our swim team.  If you enjoy swimming, love working with children through to adult athletes and want to teach the skills and attributes of competitive swimming, then this is the role for you.

The Role:

The role is for dual employment with the Norwood Swim School and the Norwood Swimming Club. Norwood Swim School is the training provider for the Norwood Swimming Club. The Assistant Head Coach will work directly with the Head Coach in all aspects of the squad program.

Reporting to the Head Squad Coach, the Assistant Head Coach is responsible for assisting the squad swimming program, as well as providing leadership and program support to a team of highly dedicated Coaches.

The role will include design and implementation of coaching programs to suit athletes of State and National level and ensure the development and smooth progression of swimmers throughout the program. You will be expected to embrace our values and drive the vision of the Norwood Swim School and Norwood Swimming Club.

The Norwood Swimming Club is one of the strongest and most competitive Clubs in South Australia and is also a consistent performer at national level. The Norwood Swimming Club is proud of its representation and success across State, National and International level competition.

The Norwood Swim School offers a high-quality Swimming Squad Training program with a team of dedicated coaches. The Norwood Swimming Club has more than 150 competitive club members from Junior Squads through to National Standard Athletes. 

About You:

The ideal candidate will have a significant background in competitive swimming and coaching, with a passion for developing young athletes.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can build and balance the multifaceted nature of the role. Key traits and experience we are seeking include:

  • Prior coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with swimmers and stakeholders.
  • Negotiation, facilitation and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership and collaboration skills, willingness to engage and mentor junior coaches whilst open to continued personal and professional development.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a strong and valuable part of the team.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Proven understanding of programming and delivering a squad program in a leadership capacity.
  • Flexible availability, including mornings, nights and weekends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Form relationships with the community, parents, and children within the swim school and swimming club and actively promote the squad program and participation in the Norwood Swimming Club.
  • Attend and assist the head coach at local swim meets, ensuring team organisation and swimmer preparedness.

Essential:

  • Previous coaching experience 
  • Coaching Accreditation 2 Bronze recognition (minimum) or Development or Advanced Coach Accreditation (equivalent or higher)  
  • Current Provide First Aid certificate
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Valid Working with Children Check
  • Availability to work mornings, afternoons and weekends, as well as attend competitions

Desirable:

  • Knowledge or accreditation regarding Strength & Conditioning.
  • Up-to-date understanding of latest coaching techniques through research and continuing education.
  • Understanding on working with multi-class athletes of all different levels
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - or equivalent).

Remuneration:

Remuneration will be (Full Time equivalent) plus penalties, allowances and remuneration from the Norwood Swimming Club.
