THE OPPORTUNITY

The Athletic Performance Coach is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of the Sydney Swans’ AFL Men’s physical preparation programme to best support our athletes for the demands of AFL football.

This will involve:

  • Collaborating closely with the Head of Athletic Performance on programming, periodisation, and coaching for conditioning, strength, power, and speed programs aligned with the game model.
  • Ensuring optimal athletic qualities are achieved and maintained throughout the training year, including off-season, pre-season, and in-season periods.
  • Supporting the programming and implementation of movement, flexibility and mobility training for positional groups and individuals.
  • Supporting the implementation of recovery modalities to ensure the best possible regeneration of players from training, travel and competition.
  • Match day support to the AFL/VFL team, which may include game day warm up, implementation of game day nutrition program, implementation of recovery strategies, GPS and game day logistics.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Tertiary qualification in Exercise & Sport Science, Human Movement or equivalent.
  • A Masters, PhD or Honours qualification is desirable
  • ASCA (Level 2) and/or ESSA Accreditation (preferred).
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role in a professional sporting environment.
  • Advanced understanding of strength and conditioning methodology and application
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.

Due to the nature of the industry, the ideal candidate must be flexible in their availability as extended hours and weekend work will be required for this role.
