Likewise, the on-field achievements of our AFL Women’s and GIANTS Netball teams are seeing the club connect with more fans and followers than ever before.

Off field, the club’s exciting, innovative, and fresh brand is growing as it engages with members, fans, the community and key stakeholders across Western Sydney, Canberra and Nationally.

The GIANTS AFL and AFL Women’s teams are based at the club’s elite training and administration facility in Sydney Olympic Park, with GIANTS Netball based adjacent at Netball Central.

Position Purpose

The role will be responsible for delivery of physiotherapy services to members primarily to the VFL Men’s and AFL Men’s football programs. The physiotherapy team is responsible for the provision of the highest standard of sports physiotherapy services, including injury diagnosis, rehabilitation, load management and injury prevention, as well as ensuring appropriate high-performance standards and behaviours. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Injury assessment and management for optimal performance and health outcomes.
  • Pre training preparation, including taping, individual athlete preparation, soft tissue therapy.
  • Implementation of injury risk reduction programs in conjunction with the strength and conditioning and coaching team.
  • Effective communication with Head of Medical Services and relevant stakeholders to ensure an “athlete centred” approach and shared decision making.
  • Planning and delivery of rehabilitation programs for injured AFL players in conjunction with physiotherapy and strength & conditioning staff.
  • Attending all training sessions and AFL/VFL match days.
  • Maintaining accurate player treatment notes and data collection.
  • Efficient use of Excel programs for data management and analysis.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Physiotherapist with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a Musculoskeletal/Sports Clinic and/or with Elite/Semi-elite Sports teams.
  • Masters/Post Graduate Masters qualification as an APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist or in the process of completing, and AHPRA registration.
  • Strong clinical diagnostic skills and manual therapy skills.
  • Experience working with athletes, either at a high performance or sub-elite level (AFL experience preferred but not essential).
  • The ability to work within a multi-disciplinary environment and be adaptable to a changing weekly schedule.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and navigate complex and high-pressure sporting environments.
  • Strong work ethic underpinned by a clear attention to detail.
  • Approachable and empathetic with excellent listening capabilities.
  • Demonstrate organisational awareness.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • High levels of technology and data competency, including experience working with GPS, strength diagnostics, and Excel programs.
  • Teaching/education experience, either with undergraduate or postgraduate students.
  • Due to the nature of the industry, the ideal candidate must be flexible in their availability as extended hours and weekend work will be required for this role.
