AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.
We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Paralympic Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

Position Purpose
The Head Coach Endurance has overall responsibility for managing and leading the AusCycling Performance Endurance Program and the National Endurance Coaches.
You will lead performance planning and coach performance aligned with the vision and values of AusCycling and guided by the priorities of the AusCycling Performance Strategic Plan.
As per the AusCycling Strategy and upon review by the AusCycling Executive Leadership Team:
Objectives

- Develop and support performance environments for athletes and coaches
- Lead National teams at international events and major games
- Foster ongoing development of AC’s Endurance National Coaches
Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are indicative requirements of the role and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all requirements.
Coach Performance - Endurance
- Coaching the coaches
- Drive the strategic direction, development and positioning of coaching for the Endurance Program around a clearly defined coaching model
- Lead, and directly manage the performance of the endurance coaches, ensuring coaches have clear objectives, individual development plans and timely access to feedback
- Provide technical input, support and guidance to the Endurance Coaches and National Road Sport Directors to develop relevant knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes, and identify best practice opportunities for continued professional development
- Empower the coaching team to develop, implement and evolve activity to ensure continuous improvement, the delivery of world leading development environments and that riders are provided with appropriate levels of support and challenge
- Drive an innovative, curious, performance focused coaching team to put the Endurance Program at the forefront of contemporary coaching practice
- Manage professional athletes and team relationships (Road and MTB XCO)
Leadership & Management
- As a member of the AusCycling Performance Senior Leadership Team (SLT) collaboratively contribute to overall planning, strategy and performance including:
- Coordinating Endurance Coach engagement and input
- Monitoring and continuous assessment of the Performance Program priority activities, targets and events
- Sharing resources to achieve team goals and outcomes
- Prepare and present reports as required by the EGM-Performance
- Responsibility for resources including:
- Physical – responsible for ensuring that resources and tools used to facilitate the Endurance Program are managed, fit for purpose and maintained to the necessary safety standards
- Budget – oversee management of budget processes supporting the Endurance Program and associated training and competition activity
- People - Line management of relevant coaches and endurance staff
- Embed AusCycling policies and processes across the Endurance Program and ensure actions and behaviours are aligned to the organisational values.
Performance Planning
- Lead the Endurance Team to produce a world leading performance plan for the Endurance Program orientated around priority activities, targets and events defined in AusCycling Performance Strategic Plan
- Lead the development of evidence-based, discipline integrated, performance trajectory targets and the development of “What will it take to win” (WWITTW) models that define the process of how these are to be achieved. Ensure that targets and models are understood and translated into the daily performance environments across the Endurance Programs
- Support the endurance coaches to create discipline specific campaign plans aligned to the overall objectives and performance targets and WWITTW models. Ensure campaign plans are appropriately communicated across the team to promote clarity and understanding
- Quality assure and support the implementation of individual performance plans (IPPs) for riders, discipline training plans, training camps and competitions and ensure activity is prioritised in alignment with campaign plans
- Lead on the development and monitoring of each disciplines qualification strategy to ensure Australia targets maximum available quota places for priority events
- Develop a framework to monitor progression against each discipline campaign plan using an evidence-based approach
- Lead on prioritisation processes that outline where effort and resource need to be focused in order to meet the program aims at both discipline and rider levels. Ensure clarity and understanding is maintained with coaches, support staff and riders through effective and appropriate communication
- Continually seek to identify and shape areas of support to maximise our chances of success, inclusive of structural, developmental and strategic.
Performance Support
- Collaborate with the Performance Support team, Medical team and Endurance Coaches to support the health and wellbeing of the riders
Note: This role will require the incumbent to travel domestically and or internationally to enable collaboration with stakeholders. Attendance at meetings and events is a requirement of the role, along with reasonable additional hours (outside of normal business hours) as necessary to meet the requirements of the role.
