AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. Formed in 2020 from 19 state, territory, and national bodies, AusCycling is responsible for programs, projects and initiatives that encompass BMX, Track, Mountain Bike, Road, Para and recreational.

We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

Team Purpose

AusCycling’s Sport Pillar oversees events and racing; competition rules and the State / Territory delivery network. This role will also work closely with the Clubs and Community Enhancement Pillar, responsible for building, supporting, and enhancing the capabilities of both the Club Network and associated community organisations. The team also drives high quality experiences for sport participants, administrators, coaches, and officials with the aim of creating a world-class, sustainable national sporting system.

Position Purpose

With a strong emphasis on capacity development in our clubs and community, the Community Development Coordinator (CDC) will work directly with ACT clubs to develop their capability and capacity across key issues, including integrity and the management of complaints, inclusion and diversity, workforce development and risk management and governance. Secondly, the CDC will support community engagement by connecting the Canberra community to their cycling clubs through activations at community events, embedding a new approach within clubs to “Come and Try” participation opportunities and supporting the rollout and development of entry-level programs and events, particularly for junior participants.

Responsibilities

  • Work with clubs to implement a volunteer strategy, including volunteer recruitment and management tools, position templates and succession planning.
  • Coordinate AusCycling instructor and coach training opportunities in the ACT and develop the ACT coaching workforce.
  • Coordinate AusBike instructor training and develop ACT instructor workforce
  • Connect clubs with opportunities for community engagement, including by holding activations at community events and gatherings.
  • Embed a revamped Come and Try program among clubs and support clubs in delivering an initial set of Come and Try opportunities across all three disciplines.
  • Support clubs in establishing new entry-level programs and events, including AusBike and junior programs and events.
  • Collect ACT participation and population data to inform facility usage and a gap analysis.
  • Work with clubs to implement Game Plan platform.
  • Support the establishment of a Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) network and work with clubs through AusCycling’s affiliation process to recruit MPIOs in each club.
  • Roll-out integrity training and supporting tools for MPIOs and club officials.
  • Roll-out of inclusion and diversity education and action plans for clubs.
  • Coordinate AusCycling commissaire courses and identify development opportunities for commissaires, with the focus on attracting new officials and upskilling existing officials.

Other

  • Develop and retain positive working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Contribute to reporting to the ACT Sport and Recreation in relation to program deliverables.
  • Safeguard the integrity of AusCycling through implementation of the highest standards and community expectations within the state or territory with regard to inclusion, the safety and wellbeing of children, and anti- doping.

Desirable Criteria

  • Sports Management / Business Degree
  • Tertiary qualifications in Sport Management, Community Engagement (or related field) would be an advantage but are not essential for the role
