We are Queensland's largest regional hockey association and proud recipients of the 2024 Hockey Queensland Association of the Year and proponent of the multi-award-winning diversity building Belong in Hockey program. With a track record of developing athletes and coaches and both state and national levels, we’re looking for a highly skilled Coaching Manager to lead our programs and elevate the future of hockey in our community.
About the Role
As Coaching Manager, you will have the opportunity to design a framework for Coach Development at THA and drive the operational success of our hockey programs. Reporting directly to the Hockey Manager, you will work with our local clubs to develop coaches and oversee their progression through representative teams. You will also manage a team of Development Officers who you’ll utilise effectively to manage our participation initiatives and programs.
Key Responsibilities - first 12 months:
- Manage: Manage Casual Development Officers to ensure our laneways of participation are sustainably enhanced.
- Improve Coaching Depth: Oversee the design of coaching pathways and offer development to cater for coaches at beginner, developing and performance levels.
- Build rapport: Develop strong working relationships with representative coaches, ensuring high levels of engagement and support during and in preparation for State Championships.
High performance: Ensure our athletes are managed effectively and peaking for state, national or international competitions. You will also design initiatives that develop players at all skill levels and create depth in our Representative program.

- A sustainable coaching pathway is set to inspire and engage coaches across all levels.
- The robust calendar of programs at THA is continually enhanced by quality delivery and the depth, standard, and diversity of our member base continues to grow.
About You
You are a dynamic, optimistic and driven coaching professional who thrives on developing others, nurturing talent, and building structured pathways for success. Your passion for hockey is matched by your ability to communicate with athletes, coaches, parents, and fellow staff alike.
Key Skills and Requirements:
- Minimum Level 2 Hockey Australia Coaching Accreditation
- Proven experience developing and managing coaches
- Diverse leadership and communication skills that cater to and engage members of all types
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with experience managing training programs, selection processes, and representative team preparation
- A proactive, forward-thinking mindset with the ability to continually enhance programs.
Desirable Traits:
- Experience with Hockey 5s and can assert THA as a national leader in the new format
- Can contribute to a network of national and international hockey contacts
- An interest in embracing new technologies
- Utilise social media to engage the THA community and attract new sponsors/players
