The Adelaide Thunderbirds are back-to-back Suncorp Super Netball Premiers and in 2025 will dare to dream even bigger as they embark on a third consecutive premiership campaign. 

About the Role:

The Adelaide Thunderbirds have an exciting opportunity for an experienced individual to join our elite team. The Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement (AW&E) Lead is accountable for the implementation of the Netball AW&E Framework. The role will facilitate wellbeing and career development programs and services to improve athletes’ abilities to effectively build their athletic and non-athletic identities whilst also developing their capacity to manage the challenges associated with high performance sport.

This position involves close working relationships with athletes, coaches, and other High Performance staff members.  Integral to the role is the ability to work as both an independent service provider and multi-disciplinary team member.

Your Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Lead, manage and deliver AW&E services to Adelaide Thunderbird athletes as prioritised in the Netball AW&E Framework,
  • Implement policies and procedures that support the holistic development, safety, and protection of athletes,
  • Through the development of building trusted relationships with athletes, facilitate Individualised Development Plans that capture the athlete’s wellbeing, career and educational needs,
  • Work closely with the Adelaide Thunderbirds High Performance staff to consistently consider athlete wellbeing when making strategy and operational decisions, and
  • Maintain timely and accurate reporting in the online Athlete Management System (AMS).

About You

What you look like and need to demonstrate to be successful:

  • Qualification in elite athlete wellbeing, social work, career development, education, counselling or similar is highly desirable,
  • Demonstrated experience to develop, plan and deliver individualised athlete AW&E strategies and activities to address the identified wellbeing, career, personal and professional development needs of athletes,
  • Proven experience building and leveraging relationships to influence and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders,
  • Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team within a high performance environment and maintaining strict confidentiality, and
  • The successful applicant will be required to satisfy the requirements of a Working with Children Check.

Being a sporting organisation, work is required out of normal hours for weekend games and evening events. We are an organisation with flexible working conditions, offering time off in lieu. Interstate and intrastate travel may also be required on occasion. You will be based at Netball SA Stadium at Mile End, a city-fringe location where car parking is available for free for all staff.
