Description

The Queensland Academy of Sport’s mission is to inspire extraordinary sporting success. We recently brought this mission to life when 191 Queensland athletes proudly wore green and gold while representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Paris 2024 will go down in history as Australia’s best ever Games, setting the bar high for the next Olympic and Paralympic cycle.  The QAS is now on a mission to deliver more medals across more sports at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, in anticipation of hosting Australia’s most successful Games in Queensland in 2032.

The QAS supports more than 500 elite athletes on their sporting journey from talented juniors to Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions. Our expert staff support athletes through in-house programs, partnerships with State and National Sporting Organisations, and individualised support for athletes on medal-winning trajectories to help them perform when it matters most.

Our ambitious high-performance strategy for the 2032 Games is to create more medal-winning moments for Queensland athletes that inspire their state and nation. While this strategy defines our goals, our organisation’s culture is what will help us achieve them. Therefore, the QAS is looking for highly talented and motivated individuals whose values and behaviours align with ours, to join our QAS Team.

Reporting to the Senior High Performance Manager, we're seeking a Rowing Head Coach who will:

  • Effectively lead the QAS Performance Support Team to implement a rowing program that is aligned to the RA HP Pathway Program.
  • Coach categorised athletes in the QAS supported program, providing on-water training in daily performance environments, as well as during camps and competitions, for all Olympic and Paralympic categories.
  • Prepare athletes for representation and medal winning performances at U23 and U19 World Rowing Championships.
  • Develop athletes that are National Training Centre (NTC) capable, driving increases in Queensland athletes to be based at the NTC's.
  • Improve athletes' capacities using various strategies, resulting in more athletes achieving Rowing Australia's benchmark performances on both the ergometer and on the water.
  • Ensure all Queensland based categorised athletes have a completed Athlete Plan, that is co-designed by the coach, athletes and performance support, and is regularly reviewed.
  • Complete the Individual Coach Development Plan (ICDP) and participate in the Rowing Australia (RA) coach mentoring program.
  • Apply the training and technical principles as outlined by RA.
  • Provide leadership across the state as it relates to rowing performance, with a collaborative approach that fosters and maintains positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support athletes and coaches in Queensland clubs to widen and enhance the overall performance of athletes across the state.
  • Collaborate with Rowing Queensland to oversee the training program and technical model for the state rowing team competing in the National Championships.
  • Utilise contemporary coaching practices and technologies, that includes planning, organising and monitoring of QAS supported rowers to advance their technical, physical and mental development.
  • Monitor and track categorised athletes' progression, using technologies that maximise training availability, enhance performance and ensure identified athletes are being categorised and are progressing through the categorisation levels.
  • Conduct Talent Identification to identify rowers with clear potential to perform in the Olympic/Paralympic pathway and oversee their programming and progression through to categorisation.

When submitting your application, ensure you attach copies of all mandatory and desirable qualifications and accreditations.
