Representing MUBC and in partnership with Rowing Australia (RA), implement and deliver the MUBC Development Rowing Program in partnership with the MUBC Head Coach High performance and in accordance with the goals and objectives of both MUBC and the National Performance Pathways Program (NPPP). 

The Performance Pathway Head Coach Development MUBC is responsible for developing and leading the MUBC-based Daily Performance Environment (DPE) for the U19 and U21 NPPP athletes, ensuring the program is aligned to both MUBC’s strategic goals and the NPPP Performance Pillars.

Remuneration dependent on experience.

Selection Criteria (Knowledge and Skills)

  • Demonstrated expertise in rowing coaching with a successful track record at the national underage (U19, U21, U23) level or higher, including a proven ability to develop athletes and coaches within a high-performance pathway. This includes an understanding and application of contemporary coaching techniques and strategies to effectively enhance athlete performance.
  • Demonstrated Talent Identification methods to identify young athletes from a large variety of backgrounds to ensure broad access to the best potential including the ability to identify athletes transitioning from other sports.
  • Experience in developing and implementing high-performance programs, athlete development plans (which include training and competition plans) and training schedules for younger athletes.
  • Proven ability to collaboratively engage with a range of stakeholders including schools, clubs, parents, sports scientists, and national sporting bodies, to foster an integrated high-performance team environment.
  • Demonstrate expertise using technology for athlete performance management, encompassing performance tracking, athlete monitoring, data analytics, and program administration tools.
  • High level planning knowledge, design and implementation that demonstrates an advanced applied understanding of the NPPP Performance Pillars: physical, technical, tactical, and psychological considerations to enhance performance.
  • Demonstrated communication skills to effectively convey instructions, provide feedback, and build positive relationships with athletes, coaching staff, school and club coaches, parents and other relevant stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the Development Rowing Program at MUBC catering for all Olympic/Paralympic categories and Lightweight categories.  Ensure it is aligned to both the MUBC strategic Goals and the RA HP Pathway Program.  
  • Work with the existing MUBC Lead Development Coaches providing them with guidance, mentoring and assistance.
  • Principal rowing coach for Development athletes in the MUBC program within the daily training environment and at camps and competitions. Delivering on water training, providing tailored boat rigging and monitoring off-water training.
  • Set the expectations for younger athletes ensuring they become engaged, proactive athletes that respect all other club members and particularly the equipment and boat shed environment.
  • Conduct Talent Identification to identify rowers with clear potential to perform in the Olympic/Paralympic pathway and oversea their programming and progression through to categorisation. 
  • Develop our younger athletes so that they have the potential to become “NTC capable” and move into the U23 and NTC ready program at MUBC.
  • Prepare athletes for representation and medal winning performances at the Victorian Rowing Championships, the Australian National Championships, U19 World Rowing Championships and U21 Youth Cup.
  • Improve athletes' performance, resulting in more athletes achieving Rowing Australia’s benchmark performances on the water and on the ergometer. 
  • Ensure all DPE categorised athletes have a completed Individual Athlete Learning Performance Plan (IALPP), that is co-designed by the coach, athlete and performance support, and is regularly reviewed. 
  • Have completed an Individual Coach Development Plan (ICDP) and be engaged in the RA coach mentoring program.
  • Follow and apply the training and technical principles as outlined by Rowing Australia, Head of Pathways.
  • Utilise contemporary coaching practices and technologies, that includes planning, organising and monitoring of MUBC Development rowers to advance their technical, physical and mental development on an individual basis and ensure identified athletes are being categorised and are progressing through the categorisation levels.  
  • Ensure all reporting documentation, reviews, monitoring and planning for Rowing Australia and MUBC is completed by the due deadlines.
  • Work in collaboration with other Performance Pathway development leads, both within the state and/or nationally, to ensure that the crew combinations that are presented for selection are providing athletes with their best opportunities.
