The Opportunity
The Qld Firebirds Futures Academy (QFFA) Physiotherapist role exists to ensure the best possible physical wellbeing outcomes that, in turn, allow the players within the Netball Queensland Pathway to develop to their capacity. The role will implement an integrated approach to the identification, prevention and treatment of injuries. This approach will be applied to athletes within nominated Queensland teams as well as the Queensland Firebirds Futures Academy.
Effective delivery of a standardised, sport leading physical screening process throughout the Netball Queensland Pathway.
The QFFA Physiotherapist is proactive in providing athletes tailored physiotherapy servicing and meaningful systems and education to limit hours lost to injury.
The role will require detailed planning, a high level of collaboration and a systems-based approach. Developing trust with key staff and players will be critical to success.
This role is initially offered as a part-time contract to 31 August 2025. The time committment is the equiavlent of approximately 15 hours/ two days per week although this can flutuate from week to week depending on program requirments. The successful applicant must be available Tuesday and Thursday nights as well as most weekends.
This is a great opportunity for a physiotherapist who is seeking experince in the sports industry within a state spoting organistion and with exposure to a professional club.
Responsibilities
Implementing QFFA injury prediction, prevention and treatment protocols:
- Perform musculoskeletal/functional screening as required to identify issues related, but not limited to;
- Muscle imbalance - length and control
- ‘At risk - Areas of concern’ groups based on pre-existing injury history.
- Musculoskeletal findings
- Coordinate and manage the rehabilitation of all pathway players and all matters relating to safe return to play.
- Operate a medical clinic assessment and treatment program for players that is built into the program schedule. Clinics to be conducted in line with the training schedule and duties are to include a schedule/booking system for players.
- Assess and engage local available medical facilities as required.
- Attend all Futures, 17u and 19u matches coordinating the medical management of players including on-court medical support, strapping and hydration for players, and assist with the setup of change rooms as requested.
- Attend all team trainings for the QFFA, Futures, 17u and 19u programs and perform all strapping requirements and assist with the setup of training venue when requested.
- Attend and perform strapping at nominated
- Ensure Athlete Management System (AMS) procedures are completed.
- Athlete Consults – prompt entry following 1:1s with athletes.
- When required, attend relevant Firebirds training and matches.
Provide collaboration and guidance on team and individual training programming:
- Work closely with the QFFA Strength and Conditioning Coach to ensure training load protocols are followed and communicated to the relevant Head Coaches.
- Provide player health status reports to the QFFA Strength & Conditioning Coach at designated meetings and provide advice on design, implementation and monitoring of injury prevention and rehabilitation programs.

- Arrange required medical expert consults and service provision for all players as required and perform full follow up.
- Recognise when an individual’s needs fall outside of the role’s area of expertise, and act to ensure timely and effective referral to appropriate service providers.

About You
- Qualified physiotherapist
- Demonstrated experience working within a multi-disciplinary team within a high-performance environment and maintaining strict confidentiality when required.
- Ability to build and leverage relationships to influence and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Hours of Work
The sport industry operates outside of traditional business hours, including weekends. To succeed in this role, you must be willing and able to work when and where sport is happening.
