Competitive Salary $70,000 - $80,000 plus superannuation, gym membership, and staff discounts. Negotiable based on experience.

The HSC Fit Gym Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the gym's daily operations, ensuring exceptional member experiences, and driving the growth and success of the fitness centre. The successful candidate will identify and recommend new business opportunities and assist in the development of the strategic direction of the Centre.
HSC Fit partners with the University of Newcastle’s school of Exercise and Sports Science and the gym manager will work closely with the UoN team.

The gym manager will be a key member of the supportive HSC leadership team and take an active role in business decision making.
Responsibilities:
Operations Management:
- In consultation with the General Manager, plan, establish, coordinate, develop and maintain a variety of Fitness and recreation activities for members.
- Oversee day-to-day gym operations, including staff scheduling, facility maintenance, and equipment upkeep.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for members, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Manage inventory, supplies, and equipment purchases as needed.
Staff Management:
- Recruit, train, and lead gym supervisors, group fitness trainers, and contracted Personal Trainers.
- Foster a positive team environment and provide ongoing coaching and development. Manage Staff, identify training needs and provide coaching and on the job training for staff
- Conduct performance evaluations and address any performance issues as necessary.
Member Services:
- Develop and implement programs to enhance member engagement and retention.
- Address member inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.
- Monitor member satisfaction and take proactive steps to improve the overall member experience.
Sales and Marketing:
- Assist in ensuring the maximum utilisation of the Centre’s facilities and meet key performance indicators.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and execute effective marketing strategies.
- Promote membership sales and renewals, and track progress toward sales targets.
- Implement creative promotional activities and events to attract new members.
Financial Management:
In conjunction with the leadership team:
- Create and manage budgets, tracking expenses and revenue to ensure financial goals are met.
- Analyse financial reports and develop strategies to maximize profitability.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and revenue-generating initiatives.

Compliance and Regulations:
- Ensure the gym's compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practice.
- Assist the Management team in the development of Centre policies and procedures.
Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Requirements
Employees are responsible and accountable for:
- Complying with workplace procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
- Participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety.
- Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, property damage, and mishaps at the workplace.
- Correct utilisation of appropriate personal protective equipment.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in fitness centre or gym management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with significant experience in the management of staff, programs and assets in a major sporting facility.
- Sales and marketing experience in the fitness industry.
- Experience in developing and implementing sport and recreation activities in a gym setting.
- Experience in working with membership, community groups, and schools.
- Experience in negotiation and conflict management in a sport/recreation setting.
Knowledge
- An understanding of the latest developments, trends, and practices in the fitness industry.
- A general understanding of marketing principles and practices.
- A working knowledge of financial practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of fitness equipment, training techniques, and health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science, Sports Management, Exercise Physiology, or a related field (preferred)
- Certificate IV Fitness
- Working With Children Check
- First Aid Certificate
