Exciting opportunity to work with Victoria's elite athletes on the path to World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Winter & Summer Olympics and Paralympics. 

The VIS Performance Lifestyle Adviser will:

  • Be a key part of the Performance Lifestyle (PL) Team, upholding the VIS motto of “Success in Sport and Life”
  • Deliver impactful PL to VIS Sport Programs as part of a collaborative inter-disciplinary team
  • Provide quality and credible individualised career, education, wellbeing, lifestyle management, and transition advice to VIS athletes to enhance athlete wellbeing and performance capabilities.
  • Implement PL programs and individualised support to help athletes successfully navigate critical transition points in both sport and life that exist throughout their sporting career and beyond
  • Design, implement, and review VIS PL programs aligned with the VIS PL strategy and vision for athlete development which includes engaging with key stakeholders, PL team members, VIS athletes, Sport Programs, and external partners to promote athlete wellbeing and performance

 Job Responsibilites: 

  • Manage and deliver PL services to VIS Sport Programs. Engage and collaborate with the appropriate VIS coaches/program/performance managers to identity the key PL factors for progression, performance and wellbeing in the VIS Sport Program. From this develop, implement and review PL Sport Plans
  • Deliver athlete focused individualised support, that empowers them to navigate the demands of HP sport, in balance with their wellbeing, engagement in life, career and education pursuits and personal/professional development. Alongside the athlete develop an athlete Life/Development plan that aligns with their IPP
  • Provide support for Induction into HP Sport pathway as athletes take up a VIS scholarship. Ensure athletes are provided with support and access to resources to thrive within HP Sport
  • Provide access and referrals to VIS Performance Psychologist and/or AIS Mental Health Referral Network & AIS Career Practitioner Referral Network
  • Collaborate with National Sporting Organisation (NSO) AW&E Lead/Manager to develop aligned practices to support athletes
  • Develop positive working relationships with athlete stakeholders including families, coaches, NSOs/SSAs, service providers, administrators, educators, employers, businesses, and external consultancies
  • Design, facilitate and deliver PL services to address the contemporary issues faced by high performance athletes, particularly in the areas of enhancing athlete wellbeing, performance capabilities and capacity to manage transitions

Qualifications & Experience:

Required qualifications

  • Relevant Tertiary Degree qualification in fields including Education, Career Development, Counselling, Psychology, Health/Social Work, Human Resources.
  • Current First-Aid certificate and CPR
  • Current Victorian Working with Children Check (must be in place before employment commences).
  • Current Safeguarding Children Certification.
  • Current driver’s licence.
  • Successful completion and currency of Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) fundamental modules as set out by the VIS

Desirable qualifications

  • Qualifications in elite athlete wellbeing or career development or workplace training & assessment would be highly desirable
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate (MHFA) or Mental Health in Sport course (AIS)

Experience

  • Awareness of the contemporary issues relating to athletes and coaches within high performance sport and understanding of Australian High Performance sport systems
  • Experience of working collaboratively in Interdisciplinary and/or Performance Health Teams with a positive and optimistic approach
  • Ability to build rapport and empathy with athletes and coaches
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Experience working with and knowledge of education providers in Australia – School, Tertiary, TAFE and other registered training organisations
  • Experience in workshop delivery and development of engaging content and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, observe confidentiality and use discretion and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team as well as the ability to work independently. Possess a high level of personal initiative and autonomy
  • High level communication, planning and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to drive continuous improvement and improved ways of delivering the PL program, with skills in implement change and influencing key stakeholders
  • Ability to contribute to the development of the VIS high performance culture and environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs and other athlete management suites

Desirable experience:

  • 2 - 5 years’ work experience in Performance Lifestyle/Athlete Wellbeing or a closely related field
  • Ability to develop resource material, athlete stories and communicate across multiple platforms with strong technology skills.
  • Experience using the Smartabase AMS platform.
  • Experience with public speaking and development and delivery of educational material
