The Queensland Academy of Sport’s mission is to inspire extraordinary sporting success. We recently brought this mission to life when 191 Queensland athletes proudly wore green and gold while representing Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Paris 2024 will go down in history as Australia’s best ever Games, setting the bar high for the next Olympic and Paralympic cycle. The QAS is now on a mission to deliver more medals across more sports at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, in anticipation of hosting Australia’s most successful Games in Queensland in 2032.
The QAS supports more than 500 elite athletes on their sporting journey from talented juniors to Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions. Our expert staff support athletes through in-house programs, partnerships with State and National Sporting Organisations, and individualised support for athletes on medal-winning trajectories to help them perform when it matters most.
Our ambitious high-performance strategy for the 2032 Games is to create more medal-winning moments for Queensland athletes that inspire their state and nation. While this strategy defines our goals, our organisation’s culture is what will help us achieve them. Therefore, the QAS is looking for highly talented and motivated individuals whose values and behaviours align with ours, to join our QAS Team.
In this role you will:
Create and foster transformational partnerships with National and State Sporting Organisations (NSOs and SSOs) to drive continuous performance improvement of Queensland, and Australia's, most promising athletes.
Facilitate alignment between the QAS 2032 Strategy and respective National high performance sport strategies, to increase the probability of sports and athletes achieving medal winning success.
Lead the development and execution of the QAS Performance Investment framework and communicate with stakeholders to ensure that it is clearly understood.
Lead QAS annual sport review processes to determine future sport investment profiles geared toward future medal winning success.
Design and deliver QAS systems and process, including the QAS ‘Athlete Tracker’, to monitor and assess athlete progression in collaboration with the NSOs. Ensure that the right athletes and coaches are receiving the right support for the right outcomes.
Lead, manage and drive a team of high performance managers who support coaches and athletes develop quality athlete plans and deliver daily performance environments. Ensure the team is strongly connected with the athlete, coach and support team and enabling inter-disciplinary ways of working
Lead the Athlete Well-being and Engagement (AW&E) team to build a range of holistic development opportunities to support and enhance the athlete journey that leads to an increase in athlete performance and well-being.
In collaboration with the Executive Director of Performance Support, leverage expert practitioners to support athletes and coaches deliver against their ‘What It Takes to Win’ performance plans.
Collaborate with NSO, SSO’s and National Institute Network (NIN) partners to deliver optimal sport program operating models, with SMART key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned to the delivery of National outcomes.
As a member of the QAS Senior Leadership team, take shared accountability for setting the leadership tone and enabling a high performance and highly collaborative culture across the organisation.
Work collaboratively with the wider Australian High-Performance system (including State Institutes, AIS, international and professional elite sport networks) to share knowledge and leverage opportunities.
Comply with the Code of Conduct for the Queensland Public Service, Public Service Values and departmental policies and positively contribute to a high-performing workplace culture that is respectful, inclusive and safe.
Demonstrate cultural capability and a commitment to cultural safety for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
