Brighton Recreational Centre, a community-focused not-for-profit organization serving the Bayside area since 1969, is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Gymnastics Coaches to join our team as we relaunch the gymnastics program at the Brighton Recreational Centre and bring "Gymnastics Back To Brighton". Located in our newly renovated, state-of-the-art facility, we offer a range of recreational, educational, and sporting programs for all ages.
The ideal candidate will hold a Gymnastics Australia Coach Accreditation (minimum Fundamental), a valid Working with Children Check, and a current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain). You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging gymnastics classes, ensuring the safety and well-being of gymnasts, and fostering a positive and supportive learning environment. RESPONSIBILITIES
Care for Gymnasts
- Ensure that all gymnasts in care are being adequately supervised at all times.
- Provide a safe environment for every gymnast. This includes safety equipment checks, checking equipment has been setup correctly, that all drink spills are cleaned immediately, and that a no bullying policy is enforced.
- Ensuring that all injuries to gymnasts/ staff are properly dealt with and recorded, including parent notification and recommendation if required. Staff injuries need to be reported to the Gym Manager immediately.
- Ensure that all hygiene issues are dealt with when required.
- Discuss with parent: development status, concerns, and improvement strategies for each child.
- Providing the gymnasts with an appropriate role model.
- To motivate and encourage gymnasts at all times to be their very best, and to provide emotional support when needed.
- To ensure that gymnasts are not only learning during every lesson, but that they are also enjoying themselves.
Program Delivery
- Plan and prepare lesson plans for each class. Copies of each lesson plan to be given to the Gym Manager at the beginning of each term (12 weeks).
- Ensure that appropriate progressions/ drills/ skills and Key Coaching Points are included in lesson plans.
- Lesson plans should involve all gymnasts in the group, and circuits should be developed to actively involve all children throughout the class.
- Complete End of Term testing for each gymnast, including comments on their progression.
- If required, plan and prepare gymnasts for attendance at competitions, and accompany them to these competitions.
Conducting Classes
- Ensure that you arrive in a timely manner at least 10 minutes before you are due to start working.
- Greet each gymnast by name if possible as they enter the gym.
- Ensure all classes start and finish as scheduled.
- Ensure all gymnasts have exited the gymnastics facility on completion of the class.
- Keep the Gym Manager appraised of any behavioural issues that occur during class to assist with conflict resolution.
Set up and Pack up / Safe Environment
- Inspect the gymnastics facility at the start of each day to ensure that it is correctly setup and secured firmly. Report any instances of inadequacies, faulty equipment to the Gym Manager and or the Centre Manager before the beginning of the session.
- Ensure that the gym space is set up in accordance to your lesson plan.
- Continue safety checks of all matting areas during lessons.
- Clean up all drink spills immediately.
- Ensure that all equipment and resources are cleaned up and properly packed away at the end of each session.
- Ensure that the first aid kit is properly maintained and well stocked.
Administration
- Provide the Gym Manager with copies of all lesson plans at the beginning of each 12 week cycle.
- Ensure attendance records are completed at the start of each class.
- Ensure you have current knowledge of any medical or health conditions of gymnasts in your care.
- Communicate with the Coordinator on a daily basis, regarding gymnasts, classes, lesson planning, concerns/ problems etc.
- Ensure all gymnasts are given relevant information- ie newsletters, competition notices, enrolment reminders etc.
- Attend/ participate in required internal meetings/ workshops.
- Enforce all policies and procedures set out in the Coaches Handbook.
- Ensure your qualifications maintained current by attending seminars/workshops as appropriate to obtain updating points required.
- Basic information technology skills (eg. Email, messages, Ipad)
Customer Service
- Meet and greet all visitors/parents/carers/staff in a warm and friendly manner, and assist with enquiries, directions and requests in a courteous and timely manner.
- Maintain a sound knowledge of the BRC services to provide correct information to visitors.
- If unable to provide correct information refer the enquirer to contact the Gym Manager via email or telephone.
