The role will lead the growth of Western Sydney and drive NSW Rugby’s Western Sydney Strategy. The key focus’ will be:
- Growing participation at all levels of the game including playing, coaching, refereeing, volunteering and administration.
- Building, strong connections to Clubs and Schools throughout Western Sydney, who are aligned and working together to achieve growth in Western Sydney
- Increasing funding to enable sustainable growth of the Western Sydney workforce that drives participation and ‘Rugby For Good’ programs in Western Sydney.
Reports to: General Manager Community Rugby
Location/s: Daceyville, NSW Rugby HQ with a view to establish a Western Sydney Hub in the future
Salary Package: Salary in line with experience and industry standards
Employment Conditions: NSW Rugby’s office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm. Staff are employed in accordance with the terms and conditions in their contracts. Weekend and evening work will be required, due to the nature of the sports industry.
Overview of Tasks
Strategy and leadership
- Act as secretary of Western Sydney Strategy Group, ensuring alignment to the NSW Rugby Union strategic plan and supporting / facilitating the quality functioning and connection to development, competitions and pathways for Western Sydney rugby participation
- Develop action plans to deliver the Western Sydney participation growth strategy in conjunction with affiliates, Schools and clubs, and the NSW Rugby Senior leadership team
- Regularly meet with key stakeholders to build quality relationships, support their operations and build understanding and alignment of Western Sydney Strategy and opportunities
Rugby For Good Hub
- Work collaboratively with NSW Positive Rugby Foundation (PRF) to identify and develop Rugby for Good, funding and/or sponsorship opportunities that will impact the lives of people in Western Sydney
- Work with Creating Chances to grow number of Tackle Life Programs in Western Sydney and connect those schools to further playing opportunities.
- Work with Star Scheme program manager to grow participation in Clubs through the program targeting at risk youth.
- Identify opportunities and partnerships that can impact the Health and Well-being of communities and deliver programs that are sustainable and scalable.
- Attend Positive Rugby Foundation Events and promote Western Sydney
Clubs, Schools and Pathway
- Work closely with local schools, clubs, Development Officers, Competition Managers and affiliates to plan and execute recruitment programs.
- In conjunction with affiliates identify new or existing clubs that require support and development and connect players, coaches and match officials to them.
- Work with clubs and schools to develop, train and support volunteers in creating the best possible rugby environment (coaches, match officials, club management, volunteers).
- Support club infrastructure projects
- Review Minis Competition and develop recommendations and support for clubs to drive growth in these age groups
- Working with Rugby Australia and NSW Pathway staff, review pathway and develop a sustainable academy proposal for consideration
Administration, Reporting and Promotion
- Analyse participation data and make recommendations to increase quality and quantity of participants specifically in Western Sydney and work with NSWRU and Key stakeholders to deliver these in a sustainable manner
- Compile bi-monthly updates to Board including any acquittals and reports.
- Work in conjunction with NSW Rugby media team and external providers to develop marketing and social media to promote Western Sydney Rugby.
- Identify suitable office and field space.
- Conduct surveys and reports to monitor the success of programs and competitions, using feedback to continuously improve offerings.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Values
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders - i.e. local Government, volunteers, coaches, match officials, school principals.
- Strong communication skills with a written and verbal ability to develop and deliver presentations on strategic and operational direction to a broad audience e.g. school-aged children to a Boardroom environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven experience managing people.
- Strong experience managing complex projects involving multiple stakeholder groups.
- Budget management experience, including tracking and approving expenditures within delegated authority, cost control, and expense validation.
- Knowledge of community sports and participation programs specific to Rugby Union and Western Sydney.
- A driven self-starter with a proactive attitude who cares about Western Sydney.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including an ability to analyse, plan, monitor, evaluate and prioritise.
- Ability to resolve sensitive and critical issues internally and externally.
Education/Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications related to sport, sports management, project management or equivalent industry experience
- Current Working With Children Check or willingness / ability to attain.
- Current First Aid or willingness / ability to attain.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
- Experience working / volunteering or connections in not for profits, community organisations, Schools or clubs in Western Sydney
Desirable Experience
- Experience in a sports administration role at a State or National Sporting Organisation
- Working knowledge of Community Rugby standards, expectations & opportunities.
- Previous experience within a rugby academy framework.
- Level 2 Rugby Union Coach (or recognition of prior learning/experience).
