Hockey Queensland (HQ) is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to step into the role of Head Coach - Women’s High-Performance Program. This is a critical position that will develop elite athletes through a world-class Daily Training Environment (DTE), delivering programs that align with Hockey Australia’s National Pathway framework and ensuring Queensland athletes meet national selection benchmarks
About the Role
The primary responsibility of the Head Coach is the delivery of a technical, skill-focused, and athlete-centred High-Performance DTE. You’ll work collaboratively with Hockey Australia (HA) and Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) teams to ensure national performance standards are achieved.
While coaching involvement with State Teams (U18/U21) or the Brisbane Blaze in the Hockey One League is part of the role, it must complement and enhance the overarching Pathway program priorities. Ensuring the daily training environment delivers individual technical and skill development according to national frameworks will always be the key focus.
In this role, you will:
- Athlete Progression: Develop and deliver intensive training programs that foster technical, tactical, and physical development in line with Hockey Australia’s priorities.
- DTE Focus: Lead an athlete-centric Daily Training Environment, maintaining its priority and alignment with the National Pathway Program standards.
- Collaborate with National Teams: Liaise closely with HA Technical Leads, QAS support teams, and Hockey Australia Pathway Coaches to ensure seamless alignment between Queensland athletes and the broader high-performance system.
- State Teams & Blaze Involvement: Take on a leadership role within either an U18 or U21 Women’s State Team or in the Brisbane Blaze preparation. Ensuring your involvement serves the broader objective of enhancing athlete development within the DTE.
- Individualised Development Plans: Co-design Individual Athlete Performance Plans (IPPs) and keep athletes on track for national selection through monitoring and feedback.
- Mentorship: Coach, mentor, and empower volunteers and other coaching staff within the State and Hockey One systems for sustainable talent development.
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
We’re looking for someone with a proven track record of delivering results in High-Performance programs, who can confidently manage relationships with athletes, staff, and key stakeholders while keeping the National Pathway priorities at the centre of their efforts.
Key attributes include:
- Experience developing elite athletes in high-performance environments.
- FIH/HA Level Coaching Accreditation (or equivalent), with technical and tactical expertise at an advanced level.
- Strong emotional intelligence and communication skills, with the ability to unite people around a shared vision.
- Excellent planning, management, and leadership skills with a focus on prioritizing athlete-centric solutions.
- Alignment with HQ’s and HA’s values and commitment to holistic athlete development.
- A growth mindset, resilience, and determination to succeed in high-pressure environments.
