THE PROGRAM:
Tackle Your Feelings is a free mental health education program designed for community AFL coaches, players, and committee members. Delivered by local psychologists, the program empowers participants to prioritize mental health and well-being within their clubs.
In 2024, Tackle Your Feelings facilitated 184 workshops across 176 football clubs, reaching 4,966 participants nationwide with the support of 49 psychologists. In 2025, the program aims to expand further, seeking passionate psychologists to join the initiative in specific locations across the country.
LOCATIONS NEEDED:
South Australia (SA):
- Adelaide: Gawler or the outer north of Adelaide.
- Regional SA: Riverland (e.g., Berri, Barmera, Loxton, Renmark).
Fleurieu Peninsula (e.g., Port Elliot, Victor Harbor, Myponga, Aldinga, Willunga).
Western Australia (WA):
Victoria (VIC):
- Melbourne: Western suburbs (e.g., Werribee) to service RDFNL clubs.
New South Wales (NSW):
- Sydney: Within 45 minutes of Sydney CBD.
THE ROLE:
As an accredited Tackle Your Feelings Psychologist Facilitator, you will:
- Deliver engaging mental health workshops to AFL community clubs.
- Be compensated per session delivered.
- Represent Tackle Your Feelings in your local community, with your personal or business details included in promotional materials.
- Gain access to exclusive AFL webinars with coaches, players, and industry experts.
- Display a TYF Psych Facilitator badge on your LinkedIn profile.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To apply, you must:
- Hold full AHPRA registration as a psychologist with Professional Indemnity Insurance.
- Have experience working with youth and adult clients in mental health.
- Demonstrate understanding and experience with community sport, particularly AFL.
- Be confident in delivering group presentations.
- Be proficient in technology such as Zoom, Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and eLearning platforms.
- Have availability for weeknight (and occasional weekend) sessions from March to August.
- Be capable of accepting referrals from participant clubs.
- Possess an ABN.
Selected applicants must complete free Tackle Your Feelings training, including a workshop video and eLearning modules, to become accredited facilitators.
