The Position
Wheelchair Rugby Australia (WRA) is seeking an ambitious, dedicated and world class input to our team capable of positioning wheelchair rugby as the leading parasport in the country. The Manager – Media and Marketing will be responsible for establishing leading practices across team and organisational branding, media outcomes, content creation, communications and other key items associated with high performing sporting organisations.
Key Responsibilities
Media
- Work with current broadcast and media partners of WRA to optimise channels and effectiveness in growing wheelchair rugby’s profile to the broader community.
- Deliver leading content in formats which will be amplified through current media partnerships broadcast deals and digital channels.
- Manage media relationships to optimise sponsor and partner obligations and agreements.
- Develop key messaging plan, articulated and delivered through multiple channels to develop awareness for wheelchair rugby
- Work with national high-performance program to deliver world class PR and media profiling of the Australian Steelers athletes and staff across suite of domestic and international events.
- Travel to competition overseas and domestically, leading media content on the Steelers / WRA through established channels.
- Coordinating contractors to deliver media outcomes.
- Develop and plan media strategy which leads direction of the sport in line with the WRA Strategic Plan and High-Performance strategy.
- Develop, maintain and engage media list domestic and abroad providing them with useful and meaningful content and updates.
- Maintain, develop and improve WRA’s social media platforms to design a leading external online presence which provides current information, updates and education through engaging content and promotes National events (i.e. National League, National Championship & World Challenge).
- Actively produce consistent, engaging and relevant media articles, blogs and written communications amplifying the sport’s profile, including:
- Media releases
- Blogs
- Interviews
- News and promotional articles
- Public-facing announcements
Branding / Creative
- Establish brand strategy which leads WRA’s presence to the broader community including but not limited to:
- Wheelchair Rugby Australia
- Australian Steelers
- Australian Womens Team
- Australian Development Team
- National Competitions & Events
- Establish brand consistency across all platforms interlinking design across departments.
- Responsible for all creative elements used to support role, through both internal resources and external contractors / supports, including:
- Digital
- Design
- Photography
- Videography
- Logos
- Lead the growth and development of the Australian Steelers brand to the Australian public ensuring enhanced profile, recognition and world class social and digital content promotion of the team.
General
- Attend meetings and represent WRA as required.
- General administration tasks as pertaining to the role.
- Any other duties within the employee’s capabilities which is fair and reasonable to expect the employees to undertake as directed by the CEO from time to time.
- Ensure compliance with WRA’s policies, guidelines and procedures.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- Strong understanding of Australian sports media landscape and experience working in this area.
- Proficient use and understanding of design and video editing software’s (i.e. Adobe Suite, Canva)
- Ability to work in a team environment and at times autonomously with competence, integrity and efficiency.
- Knowledge, understanding and interest in the Australian sports industry in order to be able to communicate in both written and verbal means effectively
- 3+ years working in a media and/or communications capacity, with evidence of work to support this
- Ability to network, develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Excellent presentation and group training skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills supported by interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer and IT skills including knowledge of database management and Office functions.
- Must be available for weekend and weeknight work when required.
- Working with Children Check
- Must be an Australia Citizen / Permanent Resident or already have the appropriate working rights with Australia to be considered for this position.
- An active passport (note this role may require active international travel within the first 3 months)
