Background:

Equestrian Australia is the governing body responsible for the administration of Equestrian Sport in Australia from junior levels through to elite competition, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Sport Australia’s 2032 Win Well strategy and Equestrian Australia’s 2028 Integrated High Performance Plan are the key instruments driving the direction for EA’s High Performance program. Role Purpose:

A member of the Equestrian Australia High Performance department, the Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement Manager will be responsible for facilitating and leading the development of a comprehensive wellbeing strategy and implementation framework specific to an Equestrian high-performance context. This work will include establishing a range of approaches of wellbeing services and support, articulating connected design principles to guide implementation for outcomes in bespoke environments, and situate wellbeing beyond a narrow service delivery model. The role is responsible for delivering associated services designed to improve an athletes’ ability to thrive and to effectively navigate the critical transition points throughout and beyond their sporting career, and also supports an aligned National system of wellbeing partnerships to meet the needs of athletes, coaches and performance staff.

  • Within the HP Program
  • Build ethical, trust-based relationships
  • Provide support to athletes in transition
  • Provide support to HP athletes during their time in HP sport

Key Outcomes:

  • Review and Implementation of the Equestrian Australia AW&E Framework to support the holistic development, safety, and protection of athletes.
  • Commitment and action from the EA HP Team to always consider athlete wellbeing when makingstrategic and operational decisions.
  • All athletes are aware of and accessing (if required) the range of support services, education, and careeropportunities and as well community engagement opportunities available through the EA and thebroader HP system.
  • Fulfillment of the relevant compliance requirement obligations in regards Anti-doping and reporting.
  • Developing and implementing a framework that understands the wellbeing requirements of allcategorised athletes, for those based both Domestically and Overseas.
  • EA is recognised as a leader in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of its athletes.

Essential Criteria:

  • Working with Children Check
  • National Police Check
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in education, social work, mental health or a related field,and/or, experience working in the sport sector, ideally in high performance sport and/or wellbeing
  • Strong communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or industry certification in education, psychology, social work or related field
  • Working knowledge of the Australian sport system and working within a multi-disciplinary HPenvironment
  • Experience guiding and supporting people through various transition, education and vocational pathways
  • Qualifications or training in case management, mental health, counselling, and career development
  • Knowledge or general understanding of the Para athlete classification system
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, implement, maintain and grow community partnerships to provide opportunities for athletes to engage and integrate with activities outside training and competition.
  • Experience in assisting athletes navigate multiple transitions in and out of High Performance sport, with longevity in sport being a viable pathway in Equestrian sport.
