Do you love swimming and have a passion for teaching others? The Melbourne Eastern Ranges (MER) Club of Special Olympics Australia, is looking for 2 enthusiastic and experienced individuals to join our team as Assistant Swimming Coaches.
Who are we?
Melbourne Eastern Ranges (MER - Victoria) is a regional club of Special Olympics Australia, (SOA). Special Olympics Australia is part of a global sporting community for people with an intellectual disability and autism. Our year-round multi-sport program supports athletes with a range of capabilities. We provide an inclusive and supportive environment that supports athlete skill development, confidence and physical fitness.
General Responsibilities:
Attend training once a fortnight (alternating).
Assist with the planning and supervision of swimming training sessions for various age groups and skill levels.
Work with the existing swimming coach team, to develop individualized training programs to meet swimmers' needs and goals.
Provide feedback and guidance to improve swimmers' techniques and performance.
Ensure the safety of all participants during training sessions.
Motivate and inspire swimmers to achieve their best.
Assist in organizing and overseeing swim meets and competitions.
Requirements:
Experience in coaching swimming or a related field.
Strong knowledge of swimming techniques and training methods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work with swimmers of all ages and abilities.
Commitment to the mission and values of Special Olympics Australia.
The successful applicant will require a Working with Children's check and will be required to undergo the basic and coaching volunteer training programs with Special Olympics.
Time Committment
The time requirement is approx 3 hours per fortnight.
Swimming training is held every Sunday from 8:30am to 11:00am at Knox Leisureworks.
Due to the important relationships between coaches and athletes, we are seeking a 3 month commitment.

**Previous experience with intellectual disability and autism is not essential. Those are desirable skills. Experience working in a non-profit organisation is also a desirable skill.
