The Melbourne Eastern Ranges (MER) Club of Special Olympics Australia, is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our team as a Volunteer Bocce Coach.
Who are we?
Melbourne Eastern Ranges (MER - Victoria) is a regional club of Special Olympics Australia, (SOA). Special Olympics Australia is part of a global sporting community for people with an intellectual disability and autism.
Our year-round multi-sport program supports athletes with a range of capabilities. We provide an inclusive and supportive environment that supports athlete skill development, confidence and physical fitness.
General Responsibilities:
- Attend training each fortnight.
- Assist with the planning and supervision of Bocce training sessions for various age groups and skill levels.
- Work with the Bocce coaching team, to develop individualized training programs to meet the Bocce athletes needs and goals.
- Provide feedback and guidance to improve the Bocce players' techniques and performance.
- Ensure the safety of all participants during training sessions.
- Motivate and inspire Bocce players to achieve their best.
- Assist in organizing and overseeing Interclub Tournaments and State Games
Requirements:
- Experience in coaching bocce or a related sport.
- Strong knowledge of bocce techniques and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with players of all ages and abilities.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Special Olympics Australia.
The time requirement is approx 2-4 hours per week.
Bocce training is held Friday evening (fortnightly) from 7pm to 8pm at the Knox Italian Club in Rowville.
Interclub Tournaments occur a few times a year in Victoria and are also held on weekends.
Due to the important relationships between coaches and athletes, we are seeking a minimum of six months commitment from the successful applicant/s.

**Previous experience with intellectual disability and autism is not essential. Those are desirable skills. Experience working in a non-profit organisation is also a desirable skill.
