Description

Four of the 14 teams that represent Melbourne University Football Club (MUFC) play as University Blacks. Established in 1859, the MUFC is the third oldest Australian Rules football club in Australia, with only Melbourne and Geelong founded earlier. University played in the VFL between 1908 and 1914, and the club has been a powerhouse in Amateur football since 1921. 

Position

The Sport Science Intern will assist in the implementation, monitoring, and analysis of sport science and performance programs. This role provides hands-on experience in sporting environment and is ideal for students or recent graduates in Sport Science or related fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Collection & Analysis:
    • Assist in the collection, processing, and analysis of performance data (e.g., GPS).
    • Contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations for athletes and coaching staff.
  • Performance Support:
    • Aid in the delivery of training programs, including warm-ups, cool-downs, and recovery protocols.
    • Monitor and evaluate athlete performance during training and competition.
  • Strength & Conditioning:
    • Assist with strength and conditioning sessions, including setup, supervision, and breakdown of equipment.
    • Ensure training programs are followed as prescribed by the Strength & Conditioning Coach.
  • Sports Medicine Collaboration:
    • Work closely with medical staff to monitor athlete health and wellness.
    • Provide support for injury prevention programs and rehabilitation protocols.
  • Other duties as required

Skills and Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in Sport Science, Exercise Physiology, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of sport science technology (e.g., GPS systems, performance monitoring software).
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn in a dynamic environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a sporting environment
  • Knowledge of strength & conditioning principles.

Commitment

  • Preseason – Monday and Wednesday; Season – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
  • Availability for the full duration of the internship program (January – September)
