Carlile is not your average swimming organisation. It is Australia’s oldest and we aim to be the best. Forbes Carlile was Australia’s first Olympic swimming coach, and started the coaching profession in Australia. Building the first indoor teaching pool. His wife Ursula was the first woman to coach Australia at the Olympics and remains the only woman to have been the head coach of the Australian Swimming Team.

The Opportunity
Carlile Swimming is growing and we have opportunities across the Sydney Basin. With our help, you will be responsible for coaching young swimmers, stroke correction, identifying talented swimmers and helping them towards the competitive pathway along with teaching learn to swim. You will combine your coaching and teaching duties with managing the centre itself. Helping recruit other teachers and coaches, attract swimmers and ensuring the efficient operation of the centre. Please note, our centres are not leisure centres, they are purpose built learn to swim and training facilities.

The Role and You
Our Centre Managers are the leaders of their swim school. Ultimately responsible for customer and staff satisfaction, growth in bookings and the efficient delivery of an outstanding learn to swim program.
You will be a fuklly qualified coach and teacher and either an established leader or someone ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. Capable of inclusive leadership of a team of full time, permanent part time and casual staff. Your role will ensure we provide the best possible quality lessons and squads, leading b y example with your coaching and teaching skills.
You will help oversee the quality of squad sessions and lesson delivery, ensuring staff are engaged and providing great customer service. You will help build a team and help us retain high calibre staff. Salary of $80,000+ dpending on experience and capabilities.
Accountabilities:
This is a role for someone capable of fostering a positive and fun environment for children, teachers and carers.
We want someone who can:
- Coach squad sessions, analyse performance and inspire young swimmers
- Identify talented swimmers and develop their abilities
- Teach learn to swim and supervise lessons
- Work with their team to recruit new swimming coaches and teachers, and provide ongoing coaching development and training
- Manage staff and provide leadership through regular training and meetings
- Help build the program by promoting Carlile Swimming and develop partnerships with local community groups
- Oversee and lead a fast growing swim school through effective communication
Specifically, you have:
- Demonstrated understanding of coaching and teaching principles
- Demonstrated understanding swim schools and their role in helping children be Safer around water and develop a love of swimming.
- The ability to lead, coach and motivate a team
- Strong managerial skills and attention to detail
- Ability to quickly understand the Carlile way of coaching and teaching
- Sound knowledge of swimming industry practices, teaching and coaching principles
- Proven interpersonal and negotiation skills including ability to liaise with students and parents
- Sound verbal and written communication skills
