We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic person who is keen to engage with a renewed organisational focus on driving sports participation and innovative thinking in promoting sport to the community and our members. This role will drive growth in participation, coaching and officiating while delivering on significant, televised sports events.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the purpose of this role is to strategically drive the development and delivery of a contemporary range of surf sports events & programs. These activities span across the delivery of major sports events & series, athlete development and high-performance programs. The role also includes coaching & officials’ education and development programs to support the participation, pathways and performances of surf sports athletes, team management, coaches and touring teams throughout NSW.
This is a multi-faceted role that would suit an experienced manager keen to leave their mark on surf sports in this state.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
Delivery of a contemporary Surf Sports program and Participation Strategies
- Identify areas for continuous improvement through review of events/ programs and investigate and introduce new technologies to sports events management.
- Work to ensure members and the public engage at increasing levels with SLSNSW sports.
- Ensure collaboration with allied bodies to ensure SLSNSW elite athletes can meet their performance potential.
- Develop proposals and initiatives for the evolution and advancement of surf sports-related events.
- Develop project plans in response to participation data and analysis.
- Develop strategic approaches to athlete development.
Major State Surf Sports Events
- Oversee the detailed work plans & schedules for all scheduled events.
- Ensure staff and volunteers are briefed, debriefed and recognised for their work at events.
- Ensure both workforce and competitor health and safety are proactively managed at all times.
- Undertake timely and thorough reviews of all events and programs to seek and implement continuous improvements.
- Undertake Carnival director-level responsibilities at major events.
- Ensure the commerciality of Surf Sports events is maximised.
Coaching and Officiating Pathways
- Oversee retention, recruitment and development of coaches and their appropriate accreditation pathways.
- Provide sports development support to Branches in identified disciplines or areas.
- Oversee the co-ordination of the Officials Advisory Panel.
- Align coach development initiatives with athlete development pathways.
Essential skills required
- Proven ability to manage and lead staff with a hands-on approach in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and build relationships with internal & external stakeholders.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and manage a volunteer membership base.
- Demonstrated success in building sports participation numbers and sports event offerings.
- Demonstrated experience managing major events and/or programs/projects.
- Previous experience developing and managing budgets and operational business plans.
- Proven ability to collaborate across department/portfolio areas.
- Commercial acumen and understanding of the synergy between sports events and commercial sponsorship
- Willingness to be available for some out-of-usual business hours, including weekends, where time in lieu is offered.
- Travel within NSW will be required, as well as some interstate travel, which may be required for national meetings and workshops.
- Current Drivers Licence.
