About Us: The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys enjoy the largest footprint in the National Rugby League. We are proud to be a cornerstone of the North Queensland community and a major part of the economy for 30 years.

This role is based at Hutchinson Builders Centre in Townsville, adjacent to Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are dedicated to building a strong women's rugby league program. We are seeking a passionate Senior Assistant & Development Coach on a full time, contract basis across the 2025 and 2026 seasons to support our NRLW Head Coach in delivering all operational and strategic aspects of the NRLW football program.

Role Purpose: The role is responsible for supporting the NRLW Head Coach in daily operations and strategy for the NRLW program. The role will be the conduit for connecting our female pathways strategy with regional stakeholders. With the support of the NRLW Head Coach, this role will grow a sustainable community of elite player and coaching talent to support the recruitment of players to play for the Club in the National Rugby League Women’s competition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the NRLW Head Coach in developing a highly motivated and high-performing NRLW team.
  • Implement and grow a female rugby league coaching community across North Queensland, building coaching IQ and rugby league opportunities in regional areas for female players.
  • Identify and develop player and coaching talent to build strong and competitive Cowboys Women’s Elite Player academies and promote opportunities to connect talent with professional pathways.
  • Monitor and maintain consistent communication and relationships with identified players signed to Cowboys academies, ensuring that player development supports Cowboys player depth and rostering requirements.
  • Generate Cowboys-led female player programs that support Club, NRL & QRL aligned player development strategies.
  • Successfully manage the Cowboys Women’s Coach Mentoring program.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in management/leadership (desirable).
  • Relevant coaching and/or high-performance qualifications.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or Exemption Card.
  • Experience in professional or semi-professional rugby league competition.
  • Experience in junior development and pathway production.
  • Ability to meet NRL requirements for accreditation/registration.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.

Key Competencies:

  • Organised and results-driven with the ability to coach and motivate others.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong understanding of women’s rugby leagues and the attributes of successful players and coaches.
  • Interest and understanding of Sport Science and Analytics.
