Archery Australia (AA) is the governing body for all levels of archery throughout Australia and a recognised member of World Archery and the Australian Sports Commission.

Archery is a sport for all, for life. AA is committed to raising the profile of archery, increasing participation, and supporting the archery community to access, enjoy, contribute and succeed across all levels of the sport.

The Archery Australia High Performance Program is a collaboration between Archery Australia, Australian Institute of Sport and State NIN partners and is focused on maximising medal outcomes at identified international events including the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We are seeking a National Head Coach to lead our Olympic and pathways athletes to sustained international success.  

About the role

As the Head Coach you will provide leadership to athletes and coaches across Archery Australia’s national Olympic programs towards achieving our high performance strategic vision.

As we enter a new Olympic/ Paralympic cycle, this opportunity presents the right candidate with the ability to reimagine the design and execution of world class performance within Archery Australia on a local and global stage.

Working with a close-knit team your responsibilities will include;

  • Technical leadership of identified athletes and coaches.
  • Individual performance planning of Nationally Categorised athletes.
  • Organisation of training camps, sessions and competitions.
  • Work within the Senior leadership team to monitor and manage the workload of athletes utilising the Athlete Management System to achieve peak performance, as well as prevent and manage injury.
  • Lead and direct a wide and diverse performance support team of both internal and external practitioners.
  • Contribute to the continued evolution of key Archery Australia’s documents such as What It Takes To Win, Athlete Categorisation Framework and Athlete Development Framework.

About you

If you are someone with a demonstrated understanding of athlete development methodologies within the high-performance landscape then we would love to hear from you.

The successful person will be self-motivated with the proven ability to lead the development, implementation and delivery of coaching and technical guidance to a group of current international and emerging Archers.

Ideally you will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership of high performance teams including Performance Support personnel.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, judgement and decision-making skills and the ability to use these skills effectively under pressure.
  • Experience of one-on-one peer level coaching and understanding of contemporary high performance coaching methodologies.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification / experience in Coaching, Sports Science or related field (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of international high performance best practice, including awareness of developing trends in coaching technique, skill development, program growth and long-term athletic and personal development, (desirable).
  • In depth understanding and application of the principles of coaching, sports science, medicine and technology and innovation within a high performance program within a limited resource framework (desirable).

Citizenship/Visa

You must either be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or be eligible for an Australian Work Visa.

  • National Police / Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
