Sydney University Boat Club (SUBC), one of Australia’s most successful rowing clubs, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Director of Rowing / Head Coach to lead our high-performance program and continue our legacy of excellence in developing world-class athletes. With a proud history of developing rowers from school level to international representation, SUBC consistently ranks at the top of the medal table at the National Championships and is a key partner in Rowing Australia’s High Performance Pathways program. The Club is well supported by Sydney University Sport and the NSW Institute of Sport.
The Club is supported by a team of dedicated, experienced and successful coaches, and it is seeking applicants for this position to provide group leadership and strategic program management.
The successful applicant will be an individual who has a strong knowledge of current rowing training and technique, proven success in training teams, demonstrated leadership of other coaches, an ability to recruit quality athletes and ability to coordinate training groups to produce a harmonious yet high performance training environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Rowing/Head Coach will be responsible for:
- providing technical, well-being and organisational leadership to the Club's coaches and athletes and performance support team.
- setting the annual training and competition plan for presentation to the Club's Committee.
- setting and monitoring individual coach development plans and individual athlete development plans.
- leading the Club's recruitment efforts.
- consulting and collaborating with and reporting to the RA Head of Pathways on behalf of the club in relation to the development of RA categorised athletes, and following the training and technical principles outlined by RA.
- managing the other members of the Club's coaching team and performance support team.
- stakeholder liaison with Sydney University Sport, Rowing NSW, NSW Institute of Sport, Rowing Australia, other rowing clubs, and other clubs of Sydney University Sport.
- coaching one of the Club's senior or under aged squads, either women or men, including crews for the University National Championships, the Boat Race, and for State and National Championships.
- being available for selection to coach NSW State or Australian national crews if selected.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong leadership and strategic planning capability
- Extensive coaching experience at the national and/or international level
- Ideally a Level 3 Rowing Australia Coaching Accreditation or equivalent, or at least a Level 2 Accreditation
- Expertise in using technology for athlete performance management, and rowing specific sports science
- Understanding of, commitment to, and empathy with all aspects of the wellbeing of athletes
- Understanding of and availability for the uncomfortable hours involved in high performance rowing coaching
- Working with Children Check
