Description

WAIS is seeking an experienced Head Coach for our Wheelchair Basketball program to deliver a high-performance daily training environment with a focus on developing athletes for senior national team selection in both 5v5 and 3x3. Please note, this role has a maximum term of 4 years with the potential to extend.

The successful candidate will exemplify a Win Well ethos and champion safe, high-performing environments. You will work closely with WAIS performance support disciplines and proactively collaborate with Basketball WA, Basketball Australia and Paralympics Australia to ensure alignment with program objectives.

WAIS was established in 1984 to enable Western Australian athletes to achieve international sporting success.  Our vision is to have Western Australian sporting champions creating community pride and inspiring the next generation. We operate in partnership with National Sporting Organisations and State Sporting Associations along with the VenuesWest and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries to deliver a high-performance training environment for sports and athletes.

Role Overview:

In this role your key areas of responsibility encompass:

  • Athlete performance and wellbeing
  • Provide leadership and empower team members
  • Deliver on Sport Program Objectives
  • Developing and maintaining meaningful and effective engagement with stakeholders for the program.

About you:

  • You are committed to upholding Australia’s High Performance WinWell pledge putting athlete wellbeing at the forefront of your role.
  • You understand the challenges that current and aspiring para athletes encounter.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ experience coaching basketball in a high-performance sporting environment and a minimum of Basketball Australia Association Coach (Level 2).
  • You have amazing interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with athletes, parents, colleagues and external stakeholders alike.
  • You have or are able to attain a Working with Children Check and National Police Criminal History check.
  • Above all else, you are a genuine team player that cares about others and always acts with kindness and integrity.
