Description

Oceania Rugby is seeking to recruit an outstanding Sport for Development Program Officer. Applications are open to anyone in the Oceania region.

Oceania Rugby is one of six regional associations of World Rugby, responsible for representing the interests of its members. It has a dedicated management team based throughout the region, who work closely with Member Unions on the development and reach of Rugby in the region to promote the growth of Rugby throughout Oceania.

Oceania Rugby’s sport for development programs, built around rugby values, contribute to achieving gender equality, reducing inequality, and ending violence against women and children. In partnership with the Australian Government through its Team Up program, UN Women, and ChildFund Rugby, Oceania Rugby has been leading its flagship sport for development program, Get Into Rugby PLUS, which is currently implemented by Fiji Rugby Union, Lakapi Samoa, and plans to extend to a few other Unions by 2026. This position will require the officer to travel around the region and overseas.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. MERL Workplan Development:
    • Develop the Get Into Rugby PLUS's Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) workplan.
    • Consult with the program leader to ensure alignment and validate the plan before implementation.
  2. Continuous Review and Improvement:
    • Regularly review the MERL workplan and its results.
    • Implement activities aimed at enhancing the MERL system as needed.
  3. Project Evaluation Support:
    • Assist the program lead in writing comprehensive project evaluation reports.
    • Present outcomes and lessons learned to Oceania Rugby stakeholders to foster understanding and engagement.
  4. Media Visibility Creation:
    • Proactively create opportunities to enhance media visibility for Participation and Pathways programs.
    • Collaborate with the Oceania Rugby Communication Officer team to design and implement a Social Media Strategy.
  5. Advisory Group Meeting Coordination:
    • Serve as secretary for Participation and Pathways project Advisory group meetings, ensuring effective communication and documentation.
  6. Communication and Reporting Support:
    • Aid the program leader in fulfilling communication and reporting requirements for funders and partners, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Key Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • Strong analytical skills to develop and review MERL workplans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and stakeholder presentations.
  • Experience in media relations and creating visibility for programs.
  • Proficiency in social media strategy development and execution.
  • Organisational skills to manage advisory group meetings and maintain records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, and computer literacy
  • An independent critical thinker who challenges the status quo
  • A genuine interest in rugby and promoting gender equality
  • Willingness to travel overseas
  • Must have leadership experience and subject matter expertise in one or more of:
  • Sport for development / sport development / rugby development
  • Gender equality / ending violence against women and girls
  • International / Community / Social Development
  • Experience leading programs or projects

Qualifications and Work Experience:

  • Tertiary Qualification: A Diploma in Management, Social Development, Sport Management, Education, or any other relevant qualification is desirable.
  • Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a similar role, demonstrating capabilities in delivering all aspects of the position.
