ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Head of Women’s Football, the AFLW Assistant Coach works closely with the AFLW Senior Coach and Coaching team to create and implement the best training programs and game plans consistent with the purpose of the Richmond Football Club: Belonging, Thriving and Winning.

The AFLW Assistant Coach plays a crucial role in the growth, skill and development of our AFLW players at all stages of their careers and in setting the players up for success on and off the field.

In addition, the AFLW Assistant Coach provides operational and other support where required to ensure the Women’s program is delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:        

  1. Work with Senior Coach to develop Individual Development Plans (IDP) and ensure follow up via coaching and player meetings.
  2. Individually coach and develop players according to their personalised development programs on and off the field.
  3. Run one-on-one coaching sessions for players weekly.
  4. Work closely with the analytics team to understand data and game trends that can be presented to the players and staff where required.
  5. Educate, using data and vision and relevant KPIs, to increase players’ knowledge of their key strengths and improvement opportunities.
  6. Support the Senior Coach (AFLW) in the continuous development and execution of the long-term strategy for individual players’ development.
  7. Identify problems and offer solutions to Senior Coach AFLW with regard to players development needs.
  8. Game day: Act as a line coach. Provide Senior Coach with game and player updates in the Coaches box and during the breaks.
  9. Perform weekly game reviews and code matches.
  10. Update Xtrek weekly with player ratings and game review notes.
  11. Plan and facilitate Line preview and review meetings weekly.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  1. Experience coaching football at an AFL or AFLW level
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in Football or Coaching
  3. Proficient computer skills, including the use of Sportscode, Hudl, Piero, Xtrek (Club data base) Keynote, Excel and other Microsoft programs
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in understanding and demonstrating the technical perspectives of football critical to success
  5. Experience leading, motivating, and inspiring a team to achieve outcomes and achieve success
  6. Demonstrated experience in facing challenges with composure and consistency
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work as part of a diverse team
  8. Strong organisational skills and good attention to detail
  9. Approachable nature with a strong work ethic
  10. Optimistic and adaptable in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  11. A significant passion and knowledge of Australian Rules Football.
  12. A strong desire to grow and develop one’s own skills and knowledge
  13. The AFLW Assistant Coach will be required for approximately four sessions per week including training and game day (in-season).
