Strategically lead an Olympic and Paralympic sport in the future Olympic and Paralympic host city!

Are you an experienced leader looking to use your capabilities to make a difference in the sports or non-profit sector? Rowing Queensland is seeking a skilled CEO to lead our organisation and drive promotion and development of the sport across Queensland. We invite talented individuals from all backgrounds to join us on this journey!

As the CEO of Rowing Queensland, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our sport and make a positive difference. Reporting to our Board of Directors, you will provide strategic leadership, foster collaborative relationships, manage operations, and champion our vision throughout the rowing community. Your expertise, steadiness under pressure, and strong leadership skills will be crucial in driving the success of our organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead with Purpose: Set a clear direction for our organisation, ensuring our mission and vision remain at the heart of all we do. Inspire others with your strategic insights and empower them to achieve greatness. Advocate for equal opportunities and continued growth and retention in the sport.
  2. Foster Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day management of our organisation and its facilities, demonstrating strong financial acumen and efficient and safe operational practices. Drive effectiveness, teamwork, and a supportive culture.
  3. Cultivate Stakeholder Relationships: Build and nurture collaborative relationships with rowing clubs and school associations, volunteers, coaches, athletes, sponsors, government agencies, interstate and national rowing peak bodies, and the wider community. Your exceptional communication skills will foster trust, respect, and engagement.
  4. Strengthen our Brand: Develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy to raise awareness of our organisation and programs. Convey our story and inspire others to be part of the rowing community.
  5. Champion Program Development: Collaborate with clubs, coaches, athletes, and the Queensland Academy of Sport to develop and implement innovative programs that cater to the needs of our diverse community. Encourage inclusivity, growth, and excellence in rowing.
  6. Ensure Governance and Compliance: Foster a culture of integrity, ensuring our organisation operates ethically and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Provide guidance and support to our Board of Directors in maintaining good governance practices.
  7. Lean in to 2032: Engage with Games officials, workgroups, and stakeholders to drive the advancement of rowing's 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games legacy.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong leadership skills and substantial experience in a senior management role.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with experience fostering collaboration and building positive relationships.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and operational management experience, including in driving organisational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • A track record of successful strategic planning and implementation with tangible results.
  • A commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and empowerment within the rowing community.
  • Clear appreciation for the purpose and value of community sport and of high-performance pathways and opportunities.
  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) in business, management, or a related field.
  • Understanding of rowing as a sport, or ability to rapidly acquire it.
  • Ability to be available for weekend events and local, regional and interstate travel.
  • A valid Working With Children Check and Australian driver and marine licences, or ability to rapidly acquire these.
