Our Recreation, Sports and Events teams are hiring for an Activity and Events Operations Team Leader at Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre, our newest facility.

About the role - Ko te mahi nei

In this role, you'll oversee the delivery of high-quality recreation and sport facilities to meet the needs of the customers.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • ensuring stadia and meeting spaces are well-prepared for casual users, regular hirers, and major events, keeping operations smooth and encouraging participation
  • contributing to event planning to ensure seamless transitions between hirers and the Recreation, Sport and Events team
  • overseeing the delivery of stadia and aquatic events, ensuring they meet high standards and positioning Parakiore as a preferred venue for National Sporting Organisations and event operators
  • recruiting, managing, and developing a team of Activity and Event staff to ensure strong operational coverage across a seven-day schedule
  • building team capability through mentoring, upskilling, and ongoing training, fostering a positive and high-performing team culture
  • leading the delivery of a high-quality customer experience by ensuring service standards and procedures are in place, consistently followed, and continuously improved.

About you - Ko Koe Tenei

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • a relevant tertiary or professional qualification in sport, recreation, events, business, or local government
  • at least five years of practical experience, including proven leadership in the events, sport, or recreation industry
  • extensive experience leading high-performing teams and achieving exceptional results
  • experience managing budgets and procurement processes, including setting budgets, tracking spending, and reporting on variances
  • excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and resolve challenges effectively
  • strong interpersonal skills to ensure relationships established and maintained are mutually beneficial
  • you will need to collaborate effectively within the team and foster a culture of unity across the facility. This will be crucial in ensuring the facility operates efficiently
  • exceptional attention to detail, organisation, and time management, with a process-driven approach
  • a customer-focused mindset, ensuring a warm, friendly, and professional experience for all users of the Recreation, Sport and Events unit.

Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre

Nau mai, tauti mai ki te whare o Parakiore - The name Parakiore has been gifted by Te Ngai Tuahuriri Runanga and fits perfectly as the name of the Christchurch City Council's newest facility, the Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre. Parakiore was a Ngai Tuahuriri hero renowned for his resilience, determination and agility.

Additional information - Ko etahi atu korero:

  • Hours of work - This role follows a Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedule, with flexibility as required. However, during the establishment phase, the schedule may temporarily shift to Monday-Friday
  • Position - Permanent, full-time
  • Salary - The salary will be discussed with the successful candidate
  • Location - This role will be based at Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre, 50 St Asaph Street. However, during the establishment phase, you will work from Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street and across our network of facilities
