Our Recreation, Sports and Events teams are hiring now for a Multisensory Team Leader at Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre, our newest facility.

About the role - Ko te mahi nei

As Team Leader Multisensory, you'll play a key role in shaping and delivering exceptional multisensory recreation experiences that cater to the diverse needs of our community, particularly those with disabilities, or sensory needs.

While the role extends across our network of Recreation and Sports Centres, your main focus will be leading two flagship sensory experiences:

  • The Southern Centre (dry space) at Pioneer Recreation and Sports Centre
  • The Aquatic Sensory Experience at Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre

You will also:

  • make leadership decisions that shape and enhance high-quality multisensory experiences
  • lead, mentor, and upskill our front-line kaimahi to deliver engaging and confident customer service
  • build strong connections with partners and agencies supporting those with diverse needs
  • provide strong advocacy for safe, inclusive, and engaging recreational spaces, ensuring accessibility for those with sensory needs or disabilities
  • support cost-efficient service delivery to ensure resources are used to their fullest potential.

About you - Ko Koe Tenei

We're looking for someone who's driven to create meaningful experiences.

You will:

  • have at least five years of practical experience, with two to four years in a leadership role within the recreation industry, or the multisensory and/or disability sector or relevant industry
  • have a proven commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative high performing team environment, and be confident managing and leading teams in customer-facing environments
  • have a strong understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, sensory needs, neurodivergence and a commitment to creating inclusive environments
  • need to collaborate effectively within the team and foster a culture of unity across the facility.This will be crucial in ensuring the facility operates efficiently
  • operate with a continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to enhance services and experiences.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the future delivery of the expanded multisensory services across the CCC network, including the brand-new aquatic sensory experience.

Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre

Nau mai, tauti mai ki te whare o Parakiore - The name Parakiore has been gifted by Te Ngai Tuahuriri Runanga and fits perfectly as the name of the Christchurch City Council's newest facility, the Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre. Parakiore was a Ngai Tuahuriri hero renowned for his resilience, determination and agility.

Additional information - Ko etahi atu korero:

  • Hours of work - Your shifts will follow either a Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday schedule. During the establishment phase, the schedule may temporarily shift to Monday to Friday. As this is a seven-day operation, some flexibility may be required to meet operational needs.
  • Position - Full-time, permanent.
  • Salary - The salary range for this position is $81,227 - $90,252 per annum, based on a 40-hour work week. Starting salaries will be based on the knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
  • Location - This role will be based at across the Parakiore Recreation and Sports Centre, 50 St Asaph Street and the Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre, address. However, during the establishment phase, you will work from Te Hononga Civic Offices, 53 Hereford Street, and across our network of facilities.
