About the University of Queensland Cricket Club:
The UQ Cricket Club was established in 1912 and was a foundation sporting club at the University of Queensland. With a rich history of excellence in both men's and women's cricket, the club is known for its commitment to fostering cricket talent in Queensland.
In the 2024/25 Queensland Premier Cricket season UQ Cricket Club entered eight senior men’s teams, two senior women’s teams, and four under-age teams in the Queensland Premier Cricket Competition. The Club also entered senior men’s and women’s teams in local community competitions.
At a junior level the Club has developed a strong junior pathway, that enables a seamless transition into senior cricket, with several hundred juniors playing across various entry level programs and local competitions each season.
Position Overview:
UQ Cricket Club is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Men’s First Grade Head Coach to lead and oversee all aspects of the club's Men’s First Grade Program. Following one of the Club’s most successful seasons, we are seeking a passionate and experienced coach to build on our momentum and lead the team to new heights.
The role will be responsible for managing the Men’s First Grade program, development of players and coaches, and the performance of the team. This is a senior coaching position, requiring a deep understanding of cricket, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive the club's cricketing vision forward.
The Role:
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Men’s First Grade Head Coach will be responsible for:
- Plan pre-season training and playing programs for senior men’s group (June to August);
- Review, analyse and further develop in season training (September to March);
- Attend First Grade matches during the season (August to March);
- Provide coaching resources that enable members to excel across Premier Cricket;
- Develop an integrated training program that is innovative and allows for continuous improvement;
- Foster a player led club culture that champions fun, hard work, accountability and a desire to compete;
- Provide high level input to groups on development themes and team culture;
- Identify, recruit, and develop talented players and provide opportunities for them the excel through the pathway;
- Establish a pathway program for player progression from junior to senior levels.;
- Communicate with the General Manager, and other coaches where UQCC can improve; and
- Act in a manner consistent with the Club’s goals, values, and philosophy.
Selection Criteria:
- Level 2 or 3 Cricket Australia Coaching certification or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in cricket coaching and program development at a Premier Cricket level or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills with the ability to multi-task and deliver to required timeframes, whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
- A strong background in pathways, talent identification and player development.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and develop coaching staff and players.
- First-Class playing experience is highly desirable.
- A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive cricketing environment.
Note: Candidates must be an Australian Citizen / Permanent Resident or have unlimited working rights within Australia to be considered for this position.
Requirements:
In addition to the experience and skills detailed above, candidates are required to have a:
- First Aid and CPR certificate (or willingness to obtain before commencing employment)
- Current Driver’s License and own vehicle
- Current Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain before commencing employment)
Hours of work:
This is a part-time 15 hours per week position. Given the unique nature of the sport industry, working outside of office hours including evenings and weekends will be required.
