Reporting to the AS High Performance (HP) Pathways Manager and NSWIS High Performance Manager, the State Performance Pathways Lead NSW, will be responsible for leadership and on-water coaching of the NSW State Sailing Performance Program (NSW SSPP). This is a full-time position based at the Australian Sailing National Training Centre, within the grounds of Middle Harbour Yacht Club (MHYC) which also serves as the primary training base for the NSW SSPP.

This role involves working closely with Australian Sailing Team (AST) high performance staff as well as the AS General Manager Club Support NSW/ACT to ensure alignment and integration across all stages of the athlete pathway. Some after hours and weekend work, as well as regional and interstate travel will be required.

Principle Accountabilities

In alignment with the NSW SSPP program objectives, primary responsibilities of the State Performance Pathways Lead include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead program planning, monitoring and review for the NSW SSPP.
  • Lead athlete selection, individual athlete development planning, and athlete monitoring for SSPP athletes and training partners.
  • Coordinate and provide on water coaching support for NSW SSPP athletes and training partners in the local training environment, scheduled training camps and at major state and national regattas.
  • Coordinate Performance Support Team services aligned with program objectives and individual athlete support needs.
  • Lead a team of specialist contract coaches responsible for delivering on water training for SSPP athletes and assisting with individual athlete development planning and monitoring (IPP and IDP).
  • Provide guidance and advice to NSW SSPP athletes as they transition into and/or out of the program.
  • Provide guidance and advice to NSW SSPP athletes as they transition into and/or out of Futures Squad &\or the Australian Sailing Pathways Team (ASPT).
  • Provide guidance and advice to NSW SSPP athletes and training partners regarding appropriate class pathways and assist the transition process, including campaign planning.
  • Assist National and Futures Coaches, where required, in the delivery of National Team training camps in NSW.
  • Work with the AS HP Pathways Manager, National Squad Coaches and AST High Performance Staff to inform best practice program and technical support for the NSW SSPP.
  • Work with AS Performance Pathways staff to prepare and monitor the NSW SSPP budget.
  • Contribute to NSW SSPP reports as required by the AS High Performance Pathways Manager and/or NSWIS Program Leaders.
  • Contribute to National AS Performance Pathway review and planning processes.
  • Participate in regular AST and/or AS Performance Pathway Team Meetings via video conference and/or in person where required.
  • Participate in regular partnership meetings with NSWIS High Performance Lead and AS HP Pathways Manager.
  • Liaise with NSWIS High Performance Manager to plan program delivery and NSWIS scholarship requirements .
  • Liaise with AS General Manager Club Support NSW/ACT to provide advice regarding coaching clinics, key NSW Regattas, development workshops and/or other initiatives aimed at strengthening the underpinning club network as a feeder to the AS Performance Pathway.
  • Attend and actively participate in sailing activities across the state to aid athlete and coach development within the underpinning club and class association network, and inform talent identification for future NSW SSPP selections.
  • Maintain a productive and positive relationship with MHYC as the NSW SSPP training base host.
  • Maintain a productive and positive relationship with the New South Wales Institute of Sport.
  • Other duties as required.
