Gymnastics Victoria (GV) is pleased to announce that nominations for Elected Board Director positions are now open. Interested candidates can apply using the details and forms provided below.
As the governing body for gymnastics in Victoria, GV is a leading state sporting association dedicated to fostering participation and excellence. Gymnastics in Victoria is a thriving industry that builds essential foundational skills in early childhood and provides pathways for athletes across seven Gymsports.
The Elected Director role is a voluntary position with a two-year term, up to a maximum of 10 consecutive years. GV is committed to being a Child Safe and Child Friendly organisation. The health, safety, and well-being of children are our highest priorities, ensuring a safe environment for all members and protecting the integrity of our sport. As part of this commitment, Elected Directors must undergo child safety screening processes, including reference checks, and will receive support through an induction program.

Nomination Process
Nomination forms must be filled out and signed by the nominee, proposer, and a seconder. A proposer and seconder can be either a member club, Technical Committee, or a current Director, however, the proposer and seconder can not be from the same club or Gymsport Technical Committee

Before completing the nomination form, please read and review the description of the Elected Director position.
Nominees are asked to provide supporting documentation with their nominations which includes a cover letter, a short statement about themselves, and a CV that showcases and highlights the nominee's skills, experience, and/or qualification in line with the provided PD and details below.
The Board seeks candidates whose skills align with the strategic plan and complement the current skill mix of the Board in one or more of the following areas:
Finance - NFP/FP
- Qualifications and experience in accounting and/or finance and the ability to:
- analyse key financial statements
- critically assess financial viability and performance
- contribute to strategic financial planning
- oversee budgets and the efficient use of resources
- oversee external audit and preparation of financial statements
Governance - NFP/FP
- Knowledge and experience in best practice corporate governance structures, policies and processes (particularly in the not-for-profit or sporting context), previous experience at board level, and/or formal training in directorship/ governance.
Legal
- Qualifications in Law and experience in its application in NFPs, preferably in the sports sector.
Government relations/ political advocacy
- High-level networks and a track record in strategic policy and government influence in sport and related policy, including a detailed understanding of government decision-making and political processes
Child Safeguarding
- Experience in the field of child protection, child safeguarding and child wellbeing in a variety of contexts (not necessarily sports)
High Performance
- Oversight and involvement with high-performance sporting pathways
The below experience and qualities are also valued in prospective nominees:
- Prior management financial services and business growth experiences in a not-for-profit or commercial enterprise;
- Experience in member-based, community and multi-stakeholder organisations;
- Understanding of the unique challenges involved in the governance of sport;
- Willingness to maintain visibility amongst the gymnastics community in Victoria through regular attendance at gymnastics events and other functions; and
- Completion of the AICD Company Directors Course and membership of relevant professional or industry associations.
Eligibility
Please refer to the Gymnastics Victoria constitution clause 13.2 for the full eligibility criteria. Please note that a person who is an employee or director of either Gymnastics Australia or Gymnastics Victoria, may not hold office as an Elected Board Director.
