Team Purpose

AusCycling’s Operations and Logistics team works collaboratively with the broader AC Performance team, to provide world-leading evidence-based support to athletes and coaches to optimise performance in the daily training environment and competition.

Position Purpose

Working closely with AusCycling Coaches and Sport Directors, the Apparel and Merchandise Manager, Operations & Logistics Team, and Performance Support Team, the Service Course Manager is responsible for the overall management of AusCycling’s bicycle workshops, equipment and mechanics. The role will oversee the coordination of bicycle and technical equipment services with a focus on AC Performance’s Olympic and Paralympic programs consisting of Acceleration & Action (Track Sprint, BMX Race, BMX Freestyle), and Endurance (Track Endurance, Road, MTB XCO, Para-cycling), and AC National Teams.

With a solid background in equipment inventory management in the context of a high-performance environment, you will work closely with the Director of Operations to:

  • ensure adequate equipment levels are maintained (within budgets) and distributed in a timely manner
  • equipment loaned to athletes is tracked
  • arrange for the replacement and sale of equipment or other assets, and
  • oversee staff adherence to quality control processes.

Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are indicative requirements of the role and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all requirements. 

In close consultation with the Bicycle Mechanics and Technicians, National Coaches and Operations and Logistics Team:

  • Manage the AC Performance bicycle mechanics, workshops and equipment storage spaces in Adelaide SA, Brisbane Qld and Europe to ensure program equipment supply and servicing is optimised for performance, and that the workshop and storage areas are secure, clean, and organised
  • In conjunction with European based staff, hold responsibility for the oversight of all AC equipment and stock located at the European Base
  • Manage all aspects of bicycle mechanics and technical equipment services, across Acceleration & Action (Track Sprint, BMX Race, BMX Freestyle), and Endurance (Track Endurance, Road, MTB XCO, Para-cycling), including engagement of contractors in line with AC processes
  • Oversee workshop and inventory management workflow, ensuring best practice processes and planning are in place for the Bicycle Mechanics and Technicians
  • Compose and implement operational procedures for general maintenance, repair and replacement schedules for all equipment e.g. tyre wear, service life, structural damage, tubular fitting technique, new and used wheel preparation, basic cosmetic repairs, damage assessment
  • Oversee the maintenance schedule and repair of all AC Performance program bicycle equipment for competition and training purposes
  • Maintain a system to manage all inventory orders, sales, asset life-spans and their location, with a focus on performance equipment and components, team equipment and assets such as vehicles (including bookings for use, and scheduled maintenance)
  • Work closely with the Apparel and Merchandise Manager to ensure timely ordering, storage, stock level and Performance team clothing sizing plan maintenance, and distribution of on and off-bike clothing for the Performance and National team athletes
  • Maintain athlete records associated with the use or loan, and return of bicycle componentry, wheels, frames and any other equipment
  • Manage purchasing orders for incoming equipment and supplies, verify receipts and when goods are delivered, inspect purchase contents are complete and goods received meet AC Performance standards
  • Develop plans for purchasing equipment and supplies to ensure inventory stocks meet demand and compile inventory reports and supply balances, including recording any damaged inventory
  • Receive, unpack and store products to appropriate area / location
  • Ensure a safe work environment; establish and implement protocols for Work Health and Safety (WH&S) requirements for working with composites, including safety apparatus. Also advise on the use of MDSS data sheets and record keeping of same, and the safe use of hazardous chemicals

Essential Requirements

  • National Police / Criminal History Check
  • Working with Children / Working with Vulnerable People Check
  • Drivers Licence
  • Five (5) years’ experience in managing/maintaining a bicycle or automotive workshop and/or excellent understanding and knowledge of elite sport requirements
