The Fremantle Rowing Club is seeking a Junior and School pathways coach. The primary purpose of this role will be to manage and grow our existing school programs, as well as develop the junior High Performance pathway through the Talent ID program and U17 nationals / school age pathway program.
The Fremantle Rowing Club is a high performance and community club based on the swan river in East Fremantle. The club runs programs for Junior, Senior, Masters and High-Performance squads.
The club has programs running year-round with the pennant and junior season running through winter and nationals, junior, and development nationals through summer. The club is a partner club under the WAIS Pathway Partnership Club (PPC) and works closely with WAIS and other PPC clubs.
Our coaching team presently has two full time coaches and a part time 19 hour per week position is available for the successful applicant to compliment the coaching team.
The role
The role will average 18 hours per week including on water and off water administration with the key programmes outlined below . There is the ability to increase these hours by coaching the additional programmes.
Key programmes for delivery.
- Iona Presentation College (Jan - June).
- Talent Identification (TID) (Oct - Dec).
- FRC Nationals Rowing Team (Oct - Feb).
- Junior winter pennant season (Apr - Aug).
Additional programmes
- Junior Summer (Dec - Feb).
- Seniors (Jul - Sep).
- 1 on 1 coaching.
The role requires
- To work collaboratively with the Head Coach and Senion Coach.
- Proactively manage the relationship with current and potential schools which FRC has partnered with.
- Weekend and out of ordinary hours work.
- Be prepared to travel within Australia if needed.
- Complete weekly timesheets including casual support coaches under your management.
The responsibilities
Responsibilities for the key programme roles are:
Iona Presentation College Rowing Programme
- Be the key point of contact for the school, providing key information to the school on training dates and structures.
- Be the key point of contact for the Iona Rowing Parent support group.
- Help support the Iona Rowing Parent support group with any fundraising opportunities outside of IGSSA hosted regattas.
- Be the key point of contact and attend all IGSSA rowing meetings.
- Plan and implement the training days and schedule for the programme.
- Develop, document and effectively communicate training and technique programmes to assist the support coaches.
- Hands on development of junior coaches within the programmes (2 sessions per week).
- Design a 6-month structured rowing programme.
- Ensure coaches have all relevant qualifications, WA skippers’ ticket, WWC checks and clearances.
- Coach a squad (3 sessions on water).
- Organise regattas including car hire and or driver.

The successful applicant will be required to
- Demonstrate excellent organisational, communication and administration skills.
- Have experience within a school environment as either a coach or administrator
- Demonstrate rowing coaching experience with proven results.
- Have a minimum of Level 1 Coaching Accreditation in Australia with a demonstrated approach to achieving Level 2 accreditation.
Renumeration
Renumeration is in accordance with the Sporting Coaches Award (2010) current amendments.
Fremantle Rowing Club supports coaches with travel and accomodation costs to attend interstate regattas and other employment related expenses according to the Award.
