AusCycling is the nation’s peak riding and cycling body, representing more than 5 million Australians who ride bikes. We help school kids learn to ride, we stage more than 500 events each year, we nurture clubs and create pathways, and we are responsible for the training, welfare, and performance of Australia’s Olympic, Commonwealth Games and World Tour athletes.

Position Purpose      

To develop State Institute/State Academy based High Performance Network (HPN) Coaches with the purpose of creating the best possible pathways and pathway programs for athletes and coaches. In addition, ensure that transitions from domestic to pro-cycling domains are done in an informed fashion.

Responsibilities        

Coach Performance - State Institute Program Partners

  • Coaching the HPN coaches in all cycling sports and disciplines
  • Develop cycling specific aptitude of the coaches, ensuring coaches have clear individual development plans and timely access to feedback
  • Provide leadership, support and guidance to the coaches to develop relevant coaching knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors
  • Drive an innovative, curious, collaborative, performance focused coaching team to put the HPN Programs at the forefront of contemporary coaching practice
  • Deliver an annual HPN Coaching conference
  • Work closely with SIS/SAS Coach developers (NINJA’s or equivalents) to facilitate and align coach development
  • Collaborate with the AIS coach development team to mutually drive frontiers of coach development knowledge and implementation
  • Provide coach mentorship at a U19 World Championship and/or Commonwealth Youth Games, with the aim of rotating cycling sports each year.

Domestic to pro-team transitions

  • Provide guidance to athletes, parents and coaches about transitions from HPN and other domestic environments and teams to Pro-Continental, World Tour and World Tour development teams
  • Educate coaches, parents and athletes on the demands of elite, international level competition and lifestyle. This includes both pro-team and national team environments.

Implementation of AusCycling Performance development policies

  • Ensure that HPN coaches have intimate knowledge of the Athlete Development Roadmaps/Athlete Development Frameworks and execute, monitor and report against it
  • Ensure that all Podium Potential, Developing and Emerging athletes have developmental-appropriate IAPP’s

 The role will require travel for camps/competition primarily domestic as well as limited international travel.
