ABOUT THE ROLE
The purpose of the role is to manage and provide analysis of football data; presenting and visualising insights to support strategies aimed at promoting and improving elite football in Australia.
The role will drive the objectives of Football Australia’s new and bold 15-year vision embodied by the XI Principles for the future of Australian football (‘XI Principles’), in particular:
- Principle V - to create a world class environment for youth development / production by increasing match minutes for youth players and streamlining the player pathway.
- Principle VI - to create world class environments for coach and referee development.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage data collection and storage across talent identification and pathways events, such as the Talent Development Scheme, and Football Australia National Teams events and Academy Programs, generating a centralised talent ID database.
- Develop regular reports that monitor and measure Football Australia’s technical vision and strategy to amplify and enhance the key technical and development insights outlined in the XI Principles.
- Support Football Australia Technical department with data insights, such as coach education feedback data, that help inform team members and drive strategic priorities.
- Optimise football data collection - Investigate how we can innovatively store, interpret, and visualize football data that we collect internally and are provided to us from third parties.
- Facilitate the development of a data-driven, practical talent identification module for coach education through management of FA Talent ID Webform.
- Coordinate support staff and volunteer coaches/scouts that assist Football Australia with the collection of football data at Talent Development Scheme events.
- Coordinate support staff and volunteer coaches/scouts that assist Football Australia with the collection of football data at National Youth Championship events.
- Educate Australia’s coaching network at Talent Development Scheme events on Football Australia’s Technical strategy and the key objective of multiple capture points.
- Support national team programs through the communication of summary data from talent identification events, and an overview of match minutes across Australian and International competitions.
- Assist Football Australia’s referee’s department with data insights and visualisations as required.
- Maintain Third Party Performance Analysis Relationships – Advise on agreements with third party companies such as (Hudl, OPTA).

ABOUT YOU
Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in data collection, analysis & visualisation
- Experience of applying data science to real-world problems
- Experience of programming language (e.g. Python/R)
- Experience with data visualisation and dashboard tools (e.g. Tableau, Smartabase, ShinyApps)
- Experience with databases, data integration, data analysis, aggregation and modelling
- Strong level of football knowledge
- Clear & innovative presentation skills (Keynote/Powerpoint, etc)
- Basic understanding of relational databases (Eg SQL).
- Evidence utilising football data either as a hobbyist or in a previous role (Opta, Statsbomb, Skillcorner, Wyscout) - provide links to current portfolio.
- Ability to interpret data quickly and efficiently, and to deliver and present the findings in a creative, concise and presentable manner.

- International Criminal History Record for each country (other than Australia) in which you have resided for 12 months or more in the last 10 years (if applicable)
