About the Opportunity

This exciting, newly created position will be responsible for maintaining the financial reporting of the Market Development Team’s sport diplomacy and sport for development programs, funded by and in partnership with the Australian Government and GHD. The MDT programs utilise netball as a tool to engage and empower women and girls internationally. This is a part-time opportunity working on a 0.6FTE basis. Given the nature of our programs rely on external funding, this role is offered on a fixed-term basis through to 30 June 2026.

Responsibilities will include: 

General & Financial Management

  • Lead the MDT with financial analysis and report preparation, variances to forecast and budget projections.
  • Lead the preparation of grant acquittals and liaise with DFAT/GHD to ensure they are submitted on time and on target.
  • Provide information as required to assist external and internal acquittal audit processes.
  • Assist Pacific Netball Federations with grant acquittals.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders, including Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), GHD and Pacific Netball Federations. 
  • Assist Netball Australia with other reporting and analysis projects as required.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Manage MDT financial modelling, analysis and forecasting against budget. 
  • Maintain MDT budget tracking tools, including staff salaries. 
  • Assist MDT with regular financial reporting to DFAT and GHD. 
  • Assist Pacific Netball Federations with regular financial reporting to Netball Australia. 
  • Assist the MDT with strategic, management, Board and other relevant reports as required.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagements

  • Work with the MDT and Pacific Netball Federations to deliver high level internal customer service, including financial management and project support
  • Guide the MDT and Pacific Netball Federations on understanding financial reporting, and associated short-term, medium-term and long-term financial planning.
  • Contribute to the annual planning for the MDT team.
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders, third parties and relevant vendors/contractors.

This position will assist with other activities where required that are within the employees’ skills and capabilities.

The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Economics and / or CPA or CA qualification (or equivalent) is preferred, or relevant experience.
  • At least three or more years of strong operational experience, preferably in a financial management role in a not-for-profit or sporting organisation.
  • Financial management and report development skills.
  • Experience with business modelling software and/or building three-way models would be advantageous.
  • Motivation to inspire, empower and enable others through effective relationship building
  • Working as a team to achieve the organisation’s objectives.
  • Interpersonal, engagement and communication capabilities

On the cusp of our centenary, and significant opportunity leading into the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, there has never been a more exciting time to join. The is based at our HQ in vibrant Fitzroy, where you will be spoilt for choice on great coffee spots!
