With 3x3 now an Olympic and Commonwealth Games sport, the opportunities to represent Australia are increasing. Basketball Australia has established a framework around talent identification and selection for national teams, with an increased investment and focus on coaching and supporting these teams for international success.
We are seeking a Head Coach for our National Wheelchair 3x3 Teams.
Terms of appointment:
The term of appointment will be through to the end of 2025, with a formal review and ability to extend to incorporate the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Manage and lead:
- Preparation & Selection camp AIS Canberra - June 2025.
- Asia Oceania Zone (AOZ) Tournament in China - June 2025.
- IWBF Open 3x3 World Cup in South Africa - August 2025.
- Commonwealth Games July/August 2026 (tbc)
- Providing technical leadership across the 3x3 national wheelchair program.
- Develop and establish the 3x3 wheelchair style of play.
- Monitor trends in the international 3x3 game.
- Provide strategic direction on pathway development and links to the competition framework.
- Develop and prepare training and competition schedules for the men’s program.
- Prepare and present reports on the team’s performance from time to time.
- Liaise, where appropriate with WBA Leagues club coaches.
- Represent the team with media as required.
Desired experience and skill set:
- Understanding of international 3x3 basketball nuances.
- Experience in providing technical leadership to a basketball program.
- Awareness and ability to manage and enhance athlete welfare.
- Experience in leading an elite high-performance team.
- Experience in broader stakeholder relationships and managing volunteers.
- Demonstrated experience coaching 3x3 basketball at a national level.
Key performance indicators:
- Implement a competitive international 3x3 wheelchair style of play.
- Talent ID and recruitment: shortlist national program 3x3 lists.
- Competition and campaign success: AOZ Tournament 2025 and World Cup 2025.
- Team analysis and review: feedback from athletes and support staff on campaigns.
Remuneration
This is initially a part-time events based role and remuneration will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
