Baseball NSW is in a period of significant organisational change with the recent retirement of the CEO and a changing environment impacting governance, funding, participation and consequently, strategic imperatives. We are seeking a high calibre individual to lead the organisation at this exciting period and in so doing, shape and deliver a transformation agenda that leaves a positive and indelible impact on the sport for generations to come.

Baseball NSW is the peak body for the administration of the sport in NSW, playing a key role in strengthening the game by driving participation growth across all aspects and functions necessary to conduct the sport and the growth, development and encouragement of members to reach their full potential no matter their ability. 

The organisation oversees a range of competitions, events, activities, game and player development programs. Through its membership, Baseball NSW represents almost 200 clubs and associations encompassing more than 13,000 players, participants, workers and volunteers.  

The Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for advancing the delivery of the organisations’ strategic and commercial imperatives by leading a dedicated cross-functional team to provide a range of existing and proposed services to members. Other key mandates include supporting or directly administering broad and inclusive participation programs, delivering best-in-class high performance player development programs and securing new and adjacent funding streams to re-investment back into our community.

You are a dynamic, motivated and commercially astute leader, with experience engaging and developing positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You are an innovative thinker capable of identifying and capitalizing on opportunities and delivering them in a timely manner.

You possess demonstrable experience driving positive cultural change, navigating and prioritizing complex issues, managing and delivering key initiatives. Ideally, you will have experience working with Local Council, State and Federal Government, and exhibit a successful track record managing a member-based organisation and working with volunteers. 

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:

  • Leading a team or organisation through cultural change - demonstrate key successes achieved 
  • Provision of relevant, reliable and timely advice without fear or favour
  • Effective relationship building and stakeholder management
  • Key spokesperson for an organisation - demonstrated ability to represent the organisation and deliver messages clearly and with confidence 
  • Well-developed strategic planning and implementation skills
  • Leading a team promoting diversity, inclusiveness and equality
  • Brand development and delivery
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant area

Professional Skills and Attributes

In addition to demonstrating relevant experiences across the core functional areas of responsibility identified, candidates applying for the CEO role will require a range of personal and professional skills, including:

  • An understanding of the workings and demands of a sport and/or membership-based organisation
  • An ability to lead and manage multiple stakeholders
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills with the experience to be a respected spokesperson and relationship builder
  • Ability to lead a peak sporting body which operates within a strategic membership support framework
  • A proven record of managing the financial operations, compliance and risk management of an organisation in a transparent, efficient and professional manner
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including advanced negotiation and communication skills
  • Excellent coalition-building skills, an engaging interpersonal style with the ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in working within a sporting and/or volunteer organisation is desirable
  • A successful track-record in business development and strategic planning
  • Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors and to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • An understanding of baseball is highly desirable but not essential.

Location

This position is located at the Baseball NSW Office at Blacktown International Sports Park with a secondary office located at Sydney Olympic Park and flexible working arrangements when appropriate. 

Travel throughout Sydney, NSW, interstate and occasionally overseas may be required from time-to-time.

Hours of Work

The role is full-time however consideration of alternate arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. There will be some weekend work and extended hours required at various times.

Remuneration

A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate.

Successful applicants will be required to undertake pre-employment screening. This includes but is not limited to national police check and working with children check. Baseball NSW may withdraw an employment offer in the event of an unsatisfactory screening result.
