Overview of ActivateUTS and UTS Sport:

ActivateUTS & UTS Sport exists to enrich the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) student experience and to serve UTS staff, students, and the broader community.

We have a focus on programs and activities that help enhance graduate attributes and prepare students for post-uni life. ActivateUTS & UTS Sports is the campus life hub, therefore when students are not in class, we help them live their best social, cultural, and academic life.

As a commercially minded, not-for-profit student-centred organisation, our key objective is to provide services and deliver development outcomes for the UTS community. Our funding comes from the Student Services and Amenities Fee, as well as from the revenue we generate from our commercial activities. We work in partnership with UTS to develop strategy and fundraising arrangements that support our operational needs.

Overview of the Position:

Reporting to the Manager, UTS Sport (Sport Development), this position is responsible for the creating and overseeing of social sporting competitions and events for the UTS community to participate in. These will often take place within UTS facilities, but there will be the opportunity to expand to nearby venues to expand the offering. The position will also oversee the operations of the UTS Ross Milbourne Sports Hall (RMSH) and the net, ensuring that the facilities are appropriately staffed and maintained, as well as managing bookings and relationships for both facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Competitions & Programs

  • Coordinate and administer social sporting competitions, events, and tournaments:
  • Organise marketing, information packs, and documentation for competitions.
  • Set up and advertise competitions to ensure full capacity.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date draws and ladders.
  • Coordinate casual staff and referees for competitions.
  • Ensure accurate financial and other reporting for competitions.
  • Ensure high participant satisfaction to attract new teams and retain existing teams.
  • Potential to coordinate participatory or high-performance sporting programs as demand arises.

Sports Halls (RMSH & SBH)

  • Coordinate all bookings at RMSH & SBH.
  • Maintain communication between users and UTS Sport Office.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and ensure customer service expectations are met.
  • Organise rosters and manage attendants for both venues.
  • Organise maintenance and repairs of the facilities as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate records and inspections for the facilities.
  • Ensure workplace health and safety procedures meet standards.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks to ensure smooth facility operations.
  • Ensure accurate financial records for stadium expenses.
  • Maintain regular meetings with Sydney Boys High staff regarding stadium management.
  • Create additional revenue through SBH bookings when possible.
  • Assist with other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:

  • Qualifications in Sports Administration/Management or related field and/or equivalent experience
  • An understanding of sporting facility management
  • Demonstrated experience in managing social sporting competitions & sporting events.
  • Current first aid certificate
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively within a team environment with minimum supervision.
  • Good understanding of budgeting processes
  • Good understanding of the youth market and cultural diversity
  • High-level customer service skills
  • Understanding of WH&S procedures.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal working hours (including weekends) with time in lieu available.
  • Current drivers’ licence
