Background: Equestrian Australia is the governing body responsible for the administration of Equestrian Sport in Australia from junior levels through to elite competition, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Sport Australia’s 2032 Win Well strategy and Equestrian Australia’s 2028 Integrated High Performance Plan are the key instruments driving the direction for EA’s High Performance program. Role Purpose: A member of the Equestrian Australia High Performance department, the Lead Physiotherapist & Clinical Services Coordinator will be responsible for developing and delivering world class, evidence-based, proactive clinical services to athletes identified by the HP program, including the identification, prevention, treatment and management of injury and illness. The role will also be responsible for leading the development and delivery of EA’s holistic performance services including practitioners that service the program and athlete as part of EA’s HP systems, plans, and processes, in collaboration with the NIN with an underpinning philosophy of performance health.
Key Functions:
- Ensure the case management of athlete injury/illness in the Olympic and Paralympic HP programs.
- Ensure the provision of high quality performance support to athletes and coaches by designing and implementing service practices that meet athletes’ and sport needs and see athletes prepared for optimal performance when it matters. This includes athlete physical therapies treatment where required.
- Influence behavioural change and promote a collaborative, continuous improvement culture to optimise performance health.
- Oversee all HP athlete treatment and rehabilitation programs. This includes engaging with external medical providers and working across disciplines to implement and drive rehabilitation and return to competition plans.
- Communication with other performance team members regarding athlete health status, training status
and training load to support collective decision making. - Facilitate and deliver education to athletes regarding self-management strategies of common injuries.
- Contributing where appropriate to athlete monitoring initiatives, periodic health evaluations and
reporting through relevant platforms. - Provide strategic direction and leadership across the EA HP and NIN performance support networks to
achieve an increased contribution of performance support teams and people to performance outcomes
and improved athlete availability rates (and reduced days lost to injury and illness). - Responsible for ensuring relevant athlete medical records are up to date and accurate within AMS and
using data collected to identify key areas for injury/illness prevention and longitudinal trends. - Fulfill touring responsibilities (camps, competitions, etc.) where mutually agreed
- Ensure that EA’s performance support, research and innovation have an international performance
focus, incorporate leading edge practices, and meet AIS and ASC compliance requirements. - Coordinate EA’s performance services staff, including their development.
- Maintain relationships with relevant key stakeholders, including the AOC, PA, AIS, ASC and NIN.
